     Update on Advocacy Efforts to Secure Appropriations for 2016-2017 DCA Grants

      Pictured above from left to right are Florida Cultural Alliance (FCA) lobbyist Frank Meiners, FCA Intern Devin Dominguez, Representative Keith Perry, FCA President Sherron Long, and Dr. Kathy Sanz, Executive Director of Florida Music Educators Association.

3.1.  Face-to-face meetings in Tallahassee during November 2015.

3.2.  Materials and information we shared and discussed at these meetings -- individual and customized packets were made for each member of the House and Senate TED Appropriations Subcommittee, key staff members, and Florida Legislative Leadership.  Sample packets included the following that we discussed with them:

     3.2.a.  2016 Florida Legislative Platform  for Arts & Culture;

     3.2.b.  List of all the recommended 2016-2017 Division of Cultural Affairs (DCA) grants in the county/counties they represent -- too many to link here, but here is the list of all 532 recommended 2016-2017 DCA grants by counties and here is thetable of contents for that county-by-county list;

     3.2.c.  Americans for the Arts 2015 Creative Industry  Reports for Florida and the county/counties they represent;

     3.2.d.  The State of the Florida Traveler Special Edition 2015;

     3.2.e.  What they say -- quotes in support of arts from non-arts organizations/reports;

     3.2.f.  Cultural tourism impact piece;

     3.2.g.  Florida Department of State 2016-2017 Grant Book of Ranked Grants' Lists for Cultural Affairs, Libraries, Historical Resources; and

     Easy steps you can do now before we get the final word from the Secretary of State's office that he has signed off on the four ranked 2016-2017 DCA grant recommendations' lists:

Do you know graphic 1.  Know who your Florida Representative and Senator are in the Florida Legislature.  Learn about them and the committees they serve on.  Go here.

2.  Make sure you have your Florida Representative's and Senator's and their key legislative staff members' contact information in your email and address books.


3.
  Join their Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, newsletters/updates sign up, and other social media sites they might participate in.



Leadership Circle 4.  Check to see if you have either House or Senate members who represent your county in Legislative Leadership, House & Senate Appropriations, or House & Senate TED.  Add to your email and address books.

Time to pay attention 5.  Pay attention to your emails from now throughout legislative session for future FCA Briefings and Alerts.
