From the Desk of Dr. Roni Raab...
Dear Fellow Alumni -
Before Rosh HaShana we read two Parshiyot in shul. Nitzavim - which means to stand, and VaYelech - which means to go. Opposite s.
Throughout our lives there are times when we have to stand firm - and times when we have to move or act. Different situations confront us in life - and our response, what we do about them, makes all the difference in defining what kind of a person we are.
When there is a matter of principle involved, we should have enough fortitude to stand up for what we believe even if it means we will be standing alone. When something has to be done and no one takes the initiative, we should have the strength to get up and go and do it ourselves and serve as an example for others.
My fellow Hebrew Academy Alumni - May this be a year full of Nitzavim - standing firm and showing leadership when necessary, and VaYelech, taking initiative and making it happen. Both actions as examples for others.
Shana Tova!

Get Involved!
As a successful Hebrew Academy alumni, business and community leader, it would be an honor and privilege to bring you back to see the wonderful things going on today at the Hebrew Academy.

We are in the process of forming an Alumni Oversight Board to ensure that every one of our alumni is aware of the goings-on here on our campus and in the community. If you would like to get involved on the Board or to help plan alumni events and activities, we would be delighted.

Mali Daum Katz Community Service Award
Eric Moyal, Class of 2013, received the Mali Daum Katz Community Service Award!
Mali Daum Katz, obm, was a student at the Hebrew Academy in Junior and Senior High and graduated in 1975. She savored her Jewish education, beginning her lifelong commitment to honor her Jewish heritage and traditions. One of the joys in her life was cooking and baking for the Jewish holidays and sharing her delicious food with Jews and non-Jews alike.
Her husband Mike created the Mali Daum Katz Community Service Award in memory of his beloved wife and the things that were important to her - family, Jewish traditions, and education. Every year, this will be awarded to the senior with the most community service hours.

Ron Dermer, Class of '89
Alumni in the Spotlight!
The Hebrew Academy (RASG) is pleased to announce that in the course of a few weeks Hebrew Academy alum, Ron Dermer, is set to replace Ambassador Michael Oren, as Israeli Ambassador to Washington, D.C. Mr. Dermer has served under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since 2009 as senior adviser in the Prime Minister's Bureau, where he acted as liaison to the White House. Dermer is a graduate of the Hebrew Academy (RASG) class of 1989, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and holds a master's degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford. In 1995, while still a student at Oxford, he helped manage Natan Sharansky's Yisrael b'Aliyah party's Knesset campaign. He later became an adviser to Sharansky and co-wrote Sharansky's bestselling foreign-policy treatise The Case for Democracy before moving on to work for Netanyahu.
Says Leslie Harris, Mr. Dermer's elementary teacher and high school media center specialist, "Ron Dermer was a wonderful, caring, and kind student with good friends in a close knit group. He was always respectful to peers and teachers and a joy to teach. He is the same person today as a leader, I know he will be a brilliant ambassador." Hebrew Academy (RASG) is proud to call Mr. Dermer an alum and we wish him every success in this new aspect of his career.
