September 10:Lake Park Lancer Joust, an all-day marching band competition at Lake Park High School West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students & seniors, and $30 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 students). Children 4 and under are admitted free.
September 14: Service Academy Information Night, including representatives from the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Coast Guard Academy, and West Point, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. September 15: Blast Into Scouting sign up events at all elementary schools in Roselle, starting at 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for families to learn more about Scouting, meet the staff and volunteers, and join Scouting on the spot.

Deadline for Early Bird Turkey Trot 5K Registration: September 15
Early bird registration for the 3rd Annual Exploding Turkey Trot 5K run/walk, scheduled for Thanksgiving morning, is now open. Save $5 off the $30 registration fee using the promo code "turkey16" through September 15.
Proceeds from the Exploding Turkey Trot go toward Roselle's annual Independence Day fireworks display. The 5K race will start on Bryn Mawr Ave. between Clauss Recreaction Center and Lake Park High School West Campus at 8:00 a.m. and will have the same course layout as the Run for the Roses. Fire & Police Departments Hosting Joint Open House September 18
|
Join the Roselle Fire & Police Departments as they host a joint Open House on Sunday, September 18 at the Fire Station, 100 E. Maple, and the Police Station, 103 S. Prospect Ave. from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Fire & Police Department Open House festivities will include tours, refreshments, touch-a-truck, handouts, and other public safety information. The Fire Department will have two new emergency vehicles on display and will have live interactive demonstrations during the event.
The Roselle Police Department will have tactical response units and various police vehicles on display. The Fire & Police Department joint Open House provides a great opportunity for residents to ask firefighters and police officers questions about safety issues.

Construction Update: Maple Ave. Resurfacing Project Begins September 19
|
 Construction is slated to begin on September 19 for the Maple Ave. project, which includes resurfacing and intermittent curb and gutter work along Maple Ave. between Roselle Rd. and Irving Park Rd. This project is expected to be substantially completed, weather permitting, by late-October.
The Village was successful in seeking federal funding for the Maple Ave. resurfacing project. Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds will cover approximately 75 percent of the construction costs, with the remaining 25 percent coming from the Village of Roselle.

Community Recycling Event Planned for September 17

The Bloomingdale Township Highway Department and Itasca Bank & Trust Co., in partnership with the Village of Roselle, are hosting the Roselle Recycles event on Saturday, September 17 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. at the Roselle Metra Station, 540 Irving Park Rd. Roselle Recycles will be held in the north parking lot of the Metra Station, off of Lawrence Ave. (enter through Rose Dr. E.) and is free and open to the public.
The following items will be accepted at the Roselle Recycles event:
- On-Site Document Shredding: 4-5 boxes (up to 100 lbs.) per person limit, no newspapers, magazines, or binders (sponsor: Itasca Bank & Trust Co.)
- Electronic Recycling: computers and peripherals, data center equipment (power suppliers), and office and telecommunication equipment (copiers, fax machines, phone systems, cell phones, hand held devices, projection equipment, audio equipment, video equipment, TVs, calculators, security equipment, typewriters). Electronic recycling is limited toRoselle residents and Bloomingdale Township residents only, proof of residency is required (sponsor: Bloomingdale Township Highway Commissioner Bob Czernek)
- Thermometer Recycling: thermometers containing mercury and thermostats (event partner: S.C.A.R.C.E)
- Winter Clothing: coats, gloves, snow pants, mittens, scarves, hats, and boots (event partner: Maddie's Mitten March)
- Bicycles: working or non-working bikes, bike parts and accessories. (event partner: Working Bikes)
- Soft Covered Books (event partner: St. Walter Catholic Church)
- Hard Covered Books (event partner: Roselle Public Library)
- Eye Glasses, Hearing Aids, Printer Ink Cartridges, Cell Phones, Holiday Lights, Keys (event partner: Roselle Lions Club)
- Shoes: new or gently worn gym shoes/sneakers (event partner: Lake Park Lancers Boosters Club)
