American Legion Post 1084 Launches Fundraising for Permanent Veteran's Memorial in Roselle

Veterans Memorial
Artist rendering of the Roselle Veteran's Memorial in Depot Park.
Members of American Legion Post 1084 in Roselle are kicking off a fundraising campaign for the creation of a permanent Veteran's Memorial in Depot Park along Irving Park Rd. at Park St. The fundraising committee for this project gave a presentation to the Village Board at its August 26 meeting. The Village owns Depot Park.

The centerpiece of the planned memorial is a fallen soldier statue (boots, rifle, and helmet) mounted on a pedestal. The pedestal will have each of the five military branch insignias mounted on it. Plans also call for a brick paver walkway and seven flag poles with the American, POW, and military service flags. Within the flagpole setting, granite tablets inscribed with the names of deceased Rosellians who served in the military will be installed.

With fundraising for the project commencing this fall, the timeline for the memorial project calls for construction to begin late next spring, and a dedication ceremony on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2014. Donations are currently being accepted through the Roselle American Legion Charitable Foundation (RALCF) for the Roselle Veteran's Memorial. Checks can be make payable to RALCF and can be mailed to RALCF, Attn: Veteran's Memorial, 344 E. Maple Ave., Roselle, IL 60172. Donations are also being accepted on the American Legion Post 1084 website.
