Volunteer Day

The Diocese of Virginia Disaster Preparedness and Response (DOVDPR) ministry team has scheduled their 2014 Volunteer Day for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at St. Stephen's Culpeper.  This will be a one-stop shop for planning and executing recovery mission trips and we invite anyone who is interested in being part of a recovery mission team to attend.

The morning will include the required mission trip training sessions (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) on the Prevention of Adult Sexual Misconduct and the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.

The DOVDPR team will provide lunch, followed by an afternoon session focused on the opportunities for recovery missions and the specifics on how to plan and execute a recovery mission trip.

Specifically, we'll start with a panel discussion going through the steps of planning and executing a recovery mission trip.  Steve Tomick from Appalachia Service Project (ASP) will make a presentation that provides "first timers" with some great info. Finally, we'll review recovery mission opportunities in the Dioceses of New York, New Jersey, Easton, Bethlehem, Colorado, and Crisfield, Md.

Participants will also have the opportunity to develop or augment existing emergency response plans.

RSVP for this free event with Mary Anne Bryant, mabryant@thediocese.net. Please let her know which portions of the day you'll attend, in addition to your name, church and the number in your party.
