Save the Date: Advent Retreat for Women Priests - Dec. 3,  Roslyn

Thanks to the campers at Shrine Mont Art Camp for providing these masterpieces that are now on display at the front desk in the diocesan offices at Mayo Memorial Church House in Richmond! Do you have any budding artists in your congregation? We'll be adding to the artwork collection at Mayo House in the months to come, and could use more submissions from Virginia Episcopalians - including the young and the young at heart. Please contact Kendall Martin at 800-DIOCESE x1029 or [email protected] for more info.

The Finance Office has released the updated Lay Compensation Reports for 2014.  Since 2013, 144 churches have updated their employee data, and this information is available here. As a reminder, Resolution A138, adopted at General Convention 2009, requires us to provide pension benefits for any paid lay employee of the Episcopal Church working 1,000 hours or more per year (20 hours per week) and to utilize the Church Pension Group standards as a baseline. General Convention 2012 allowed an extension for schools until January 1, 2018, using a phase-in model. If you have any questions about these reports or the requirement for lay pension, please contact Ted Smith at [email protected] or Joy Buzzard at [email protected]

Staff Announcements

We shared with you this week exciting news about the new transition ministry and vocation team. Today, we're happy to announce that former staff member Kathlyn Jones will return to the diocesan staff on September 2 to serve as part-time administrative assistant for that team.

Kathlyn brings to Mayo House a wealth of information about the Diocese. Having served as Christian Formation assistant and as assistant to Bishop Goff, Kathlyn will be a knowledgeable, energetic addition to your diocesan staff.

Bishop Johnston's decision to forgo hiring a bishop's clerk for the coming year gave us the budgetary opportunity to create this new position.

As Kathlyn absorbs the administrative responsibilities for both the vocation and transition ministry offices, current staff member Kendall Martin will become a full-time communications assistant. Previously, Kendall supported both the transition ministry and communications offices, and has brought great attention to detail and dedication to her work. This shift in responsibilities will allow us to continue to expand and enhance our communications offerings and resources.
