Need to Know

During the first two weeks of May, we will welcome the Rt. Rev. Filadelfo Oliviera Neto from the Diocese of Rio de Janeiro. He will be attending the Bishop's Spring Conference for Clergy, Lay Professionals and Spouses at Shrine Mont (May 5-7), but will also have time to travel around our Diocese. Representatives of the Diocese of Virginia visited Bishop Filadelfo in October 2013. The Diocese of Rio is focused in particular on new church plants and creative ways to provide continuing training to clergy. If you would like to connect with Bishop Filadelfo, please contact Amy Williams at awilliams@thediocese.net.

Where are you going? The Office of Mission and Outreach wants to know! Is your church going on a mission trip this summer? Do you have room for more participants? Contact Megan-Drew Tiller at intern@thediocese.net or 800-DIOCESE x1019 with your plans.

Other Events & News

Two sessions of a 3-part Godly Play "core" (accreditation) training will take place April 12 and May 10 at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School in Alexandria. In April, we will focus on parables and the importance of the Godly Play room as sacred space. In May, we will work on liturgical lessons and discuss how to support the circle of children ("classroom management"). For those who missed session one (sacred stories and a discussion of children's spirituality), opportunities will be given to make up those topics and earn accreditation. For more information, contact The Rev. Rosemary Beales (rbeales@sssas.org). To register, visit www.godlyplayfoundation.org.

The Association of Anglican Musician will host a Clergy Day at Virginia Theological Seminary on June 18, with a special panel discussion and guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Francis Wade. The theme of the day will be "Clergy and Musicians: A Shared Ministry." Learn more and register

Faith & Females

The first gathering of Faith & Females in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia will take place Saturday, May 17, at St. James the Less, Richmond!

This will be an opportunity for girls and women to come together to discuss some of the exciting programs and innovative ministries that we've been participating in - and to talk about how we can put our collective energies together in future efforts and programs. From our Women-to-Women partnership in the Congo, to the Episcopal Church Women's work against human trafficking, to the WomanKind meeting held at St. James's, Richmond, there's a huge amount of passion surrounding the issues of women and faith, and we thought it was time we put our heads together to share that excitement across the entire Diocese.

Our goal for the day is to connect, collaborate and inspire. We'll share our stories, participate in worship with Bishop Susan Goff, join in conversation and make plans for the future. The idea here is to get a bunch of smart women in one place to talk about issues that matter to us, and the role they play in our faith formation. This will be a day of fun and thought-provoking conversation.

Where: St. James the Less Church, Ashland
When: Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Who: Girls (middle-school-age or older) and Women
Registration: There is no cost to attend; lunch will be provided (suggested $5 cash or check donation at the door). Space is limited. Please contact Kendall Martin at kmartin@thediocese.net to register. Please provide your name, whether you're a youth or adult representative, and your church or affiliation.
