Need to Know   
  • The Diocese seeks to connect college students with Episcopal campus ministries. Parents, clergy or college students are invited to complete this form. The diocesan offices use this information to connect college students with the appropriate college minister or local church.
  • The deadline for applications for the annual scholarships awarded by the Episcopal Church Women is May 30.  Visit the ECW website for the application.   
  • The Diocesan Missionary Society announces new, short-term loans of up to $100,000. Current rates are at prime + 3%. In addition, DMS has funds available for long-term loans at new, lower rates. Contact Joy Buzzard at [email protected] or 800-DIOCESE ext. 1022 for more information.

  • The Rt. Rev. Shannon S. Johnston will ordain Joseph Miller Cochran, Christopher Westlund Hogin, Matthew McClelland Lukens, Grey Scott Maggiano, Connor Jackson Newlun, Barbara Harrison Seward, Ann Harris Truitt and Bernard Yu Yung to the Sacred Order of Deacons on Saturday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. Clergy: red stoles. 
  • St. Andrew's School, the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School, the William Byrd Community House, Grace & Holy Trinity Church and the Diocese of Virginia will all serve as host work sites for the 2013-2014 season of Grace-on-the-Hill, an initiative that will bring together interns to live and work together in intentional community, sponsored by St. Andrew's Church, Richmond in partnership with the Diocese.  Learn more and help us spread the word to potential applicants! 
  • On November 15, the Episcopal Church will host a special forum:: Fifty Years Later: The State of Racism in America. Originating from St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, Mississippi, the 90-minute ecumenical forum will be live webcast beginning at 2 p.m. If your church will be organizing a live-viewing of this event, please let us know: Emily Cherry at [email protected]

On Thursday, May 30, the Episcopal Preaching Foundation will celebrate its 25th anniversary with the presiding bishop at Roslyn - and you're invited! Bishop Jefferts Schori will provide and opening lecture and celebrate the Eucharist, which will be followed by a series of workshops by the Rev. Dr. Lauren Winner, the Rev. Albert Cutie and others. Bishop Johnston will participate in a panel discussion with other bishops on what the Church needs in the next generation of preachers.
