Need to Know   
  • Bishop Susan Goff had a hiking mishap over the weekend and broke a bone in her foot. She is in a cast and using a knee scooter. Bishop Goff is recuperating well, and in fact has already resumed her visitation schedule. Please keep her healing in your prayers.    
  • Check out the latest posts on the DioDocs Blog: an article on how to prepare for and respond to tornadoes, from the diocesan Disaster Preparedness & Response Ministry Team, plus a post on a program that empowers the laity for pastoral care, from the diocesan Committee on Mental Health.    
  • The deadline for applications for the annual scholarships awarded by the Episcopal Church Women is May 30.  Visit the ECW website for the application.

  • The Spring Clergy Orientation for clergy new to the Diocese within the past 18 months will take place at the diocesan offices at Mayo House in Richmond May 28.  Learn more and register online.   
  • The Spring 2013 meeting of the Episcopal Church Women will convene on Thursday, May 23 at St. Mary's, Whitechapel. Keynote speaker Joshua Bailey is co-founder and CEO of the Gray Haven, an organization based in Richmond that provides needed services to victims of human trafficking. The Church Periodical Club (CPC) is an Episcopal institution that provides books, magazines, tapes, videos and computer programs at no charge to those who cannot otherwise obtain them.  Within the CPC is a fund called Miles of Pennies that provides grants up to $844.80.  Laid edge-to-edge, it takes 84,480 pennies to cover the distance of a mile.  Jackson-Feild Home's Hayden Gwaltney School recently received a full grant of $844.80 from this fund, used to purchase 77 books that focus on healthy relationships, history or classic literature. Young Adult Intern & Intentional Community Opportunity in Richmond 
 
St. Andrew's School, the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School, the William Byrd Community House, Grace & Holy Trinity Church and the Diocese of Virginia will all serve as host work sites for the inaugural, 2013-2014 season of Grace-on-the-Hill, an initiative that will bring together interns to live and work together in intentional community, sponsored by St. Andrew's Church, Richmond in partnership with the Diocese.  Grace-on-the-Hill is currently receiving applications.
