Need to Know  
  • The presiding bishop offers a video Advent message for the Episcopal Church, asking the question, "What is it that you are most waiting for?  
  • Remember to submit your Council registration by December 14 for the early-bird discount, and to make your hotel reservations soon before the special diocesan rate expires!  
  • An update on the Congo: An Anglican priest from the Congo, befriended by a Virginia delegation in May, has made it to Rwanda on his trek back to his beleaguered hometown of Goma from a conference in Ethiopia. His family is safe. But others have not been so fortunate. Pray for peace. Learn more
  • Churches in the news: St. Francis', Great Falls participated in two weekends of volunteer projects at Jackson-Feild Homes. Read about their projects in this article from the Independent-Messenger.    
  • The Diocese and the diocesan Disaster Preparedness and Response Ministry Team are fielding  many questions concerning our response to the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  The Ministry Team will release a comprehensive response to those questions next week, covering how to help now, how to help later, and how to get involved as individuals and as parishes. But the Ministry Team needs your help. If you know of initiatives individual parishes are currently undertaking, please forward that information to Dan Wilmoth, co-chair of the Disaster Preparedness and Response Ministry Team, at  danny.wilmoth@yahoo.com.

  • Bishop Johnston will ordain the following men and women to the priesthood on Saturday, December 15 at the Falls Church, Falls Church: Jo J. Belser, Laura Doud  Cochran, David Malcom Crosby, Megan Limburg, Robert Lee Morris II, Bernard Cayce Ramey, Amy Lynn Spagna, Leslie Nunez Steffensen and Andrew Bennett Terry. All are welcome at the 10:30 a.m. service.  
  • The 2012 Camp Reunion will take place on Saturday, December 29 from 1-4 p.m. at the Falls Church Episcopal, Falls Church.  Please join us as we gather for fun, fellowship and, of course, singing to celebrate 2012 diocesan camps!  For more information please contact Meg Schwarz at mschwarz@thediocese.net or 800-DIOCESE x1043.

Native American Ministry Day

The diocesan Native American Ministry Day is a time to explore the Pamunkey Reservation and its museum, share our stories, hear what opportunities are available in Virginia and around the country, and plan for the future.

Native American Ministry Day will take place Saturday, December 8 on the Pamunkey Reservation from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., and will include a museum tour and lunch. Please contact Mary Anne Bryant at mabryant@thediocese.net to attend. Lunch will be provided.
