Need to Know
  • How is your church responding to help victims of Hurricane Sandy ? Share your stories with the Virginia Episcopalian magazine. Please contact Emily Cherry at echerry@thediocese.net.
  • Learn more about the ministries we share together as a church community in this year's diocesan brochure, Setting God's Table. Your church should have received a packet of brochures, plus a pledge card, in the mail. You can also complete your pledge online
  • The Virginia Episcopalian magazine wants to know: How has your church changed your life? Share your responses - in prose, poetry or pictures - to be included in the Reader's Page feature of the magazine. Please contact Emily Cherry at echerry@thediocese.net.
  • Dates for the 2013 season of diocesan summer camps at Shrine Mont are now available! Check out the camp website for more info. Registration will open in January.
  • Last summer, five of our diocesan youth visited the Diocese of Central Tanganyika, Tanzania and assisted NetsforLife health workers in their life-saving work.  Check out a video of their life-saving work. With just three months left in this diocesan campaign to battle malaria,  please consider how your parish can help our youth and ECW cross the finish line of the Bishop's NetsforLife Inspiration Fund!
  • At this past weekend's Volunteer Day with the diocesan Disaster and Preparedness Ministry Team, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management conducted a presentation on individual and family preparedness. Learn more.

Other Announcements
The Richmond Region Energy Alliance has partnered with Virginia Interfaith Power & Light to spread a message of efficient to local faith communities. "All major faith traditions have this ethic to care for Creation, to respond faithfully to the call to be good stewards," said Katie Preston, director of VIPL." Embracing energy efficiency is just one way we can respond, both in our homes and in our congregations."  While the specific focus of current efforts is constrained to this partnership with RREA in the greater Richmond area, Preston is working to identify resources and partners throughout the Commonwealth for homeowners and congregations alike.  If you are interested in learning more about how your congregation can get involved, contact Katie at katie@virginiainterfaithcenter.org or 804-43-2474.

The Bible Challenge:
Take Two

This year, over 800 members of the Diocese of Virginia signed up to participate in the Bible Challenge, the year-long, diocesan-wide initiative to read the Bible to completion in one year. Each week, we send out a list of readings along with accompanying reflections, meditations, prayers and questions. We invite discussion and resource sharing on our Bible Challenge Facebook page.

Cycle One of Virginia's Bible Challenge started on Palm Sunday - but 2013 will bring two more opportunities to join if you missed out in 2012. Bishop Johnston invites members of the Diocese to take part in one of two new cycles. Cycle Two will start on New Year's Eve - Monday, December 31, 2012 - and Cycle Three will start at Lent 2013. Each of these cycles will follow the same reading schedule, developed and offered by the Center for Biblical Studies, as Cycle One.
