How About An Entire Weekend of MMSC?
|
Summer is the season for traveling, right? So, did you know MMSC is hitting The Road this summer? We are heading south. Won't you join us? We are trying something entirely new and we'd love to have you come along for the ride! We will be performing in July (17 - 19) on the BIG stage of County Players at the Falls Theatre in Wappingers Falls for an exciting weekend of Readers Theatre. That's right - an entire weekend of MMSC with a different show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Imagine that - three different days - three different shows. On a real stage. With real theatrical lighting and sound. And a set! (Don't worry - we still won't have costumes.) Brand new stools for us. AND comfortable reserved seating for you! Our MMSC performances are just one weekend in a big three weekend Summer Series at County Players. You may also want to catch Hollywood , Big Band Style, featuring the Big Band Sound on July 10 - 12 AND A Grand Night for Singing, featuring the music of Richard Rodgers and the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II on July 24 - 26. Plan to see it all. Make a day/night of it! Wappingers Falls is a charming village in Dutchess County. Great neighborhood restaurants within an easy walk of the Falls Theatre. Here's directions. Read on for the line-up of our MMSC Readers Theatre Weekend. Hope to see you there! Sincerely, Bob Robert Miller, Producing Director Mohonk Mountain Stage Company, Inc. 845-380-0155

FRIDAY JULY 17 / 8PM
Grounded
by George Brant

A hotshot F-16 pilot reports back to duty after an unexpected pregnancy, and finds herself reassigned to flying drones from a windowless trailer near Las Vegas.
As she hunts insurgents by day and returns to her family each night, boundaries increasingly blur between the desert in which she lives and the virtual one she patrols a world away. Grounded is a gripping new play that explodes our assumptions about war, family, and personal responsibility.
Directed by Christine Crawfis
Featuring Janet Nurre as The Pilot
Praise for Grounded
"Gripping..." The New York Times
"Critic's Pick. A scorching sharp-eyed, timely script...lets no one off easy. Clap all you want at the end - and you'll want to clap a lot - but the game stays with you"
Time Out New York
"As close to perfection as is possible to imagine.Grounded is a powerful, hallucinogenic experience."

SATURDAY JULY 18 / 8PM
The Language Archive
A Love Story

Winner of the 2010 Susan Blackburn Prize
George is a brilliant linguist, consumed with preserving and documenting dying languages. But at home, he cannot find the words that will preserve his disintegrating marriage. His archival assistant is mute with adoration for him; and his newest subjects, an elderly couple who are the last speakers of an obscure language, refuse to utter a word to one another.
Cho's magical prize-winning comedy, loaded with life's contradictions - love and loss, happiness and pain, endings and beginnings - asks whether love is a universal language or, like Esperanto, just a well-intentioned dream. Directed by Christine Crawfis Featuring Rick Meyer, MaryBeth Boylan, Janet Nurre, Doug Woolley, Julie Eads Woolley, AnnaMarie Paolercio, and Jeff Battersby
Praise for
The Language Archive
"...a tour de force... passionate, wise and wonderful." Talkin' Broadway"Uniquely blends absurdist farce with sentimental comedy." LA Times "Quirky, but ravishingly well-written piece that is smart, funny, deep and tender." OC Weekly "The Language Archive is an elegant, graceful confection of a play..." DC Theatre Scene The Language Archive Perfect for MMSC & "Art for the Ears" While languages dwindle or communication fails, Cho's terse language thrives. She says "I like empty space. I like silence. I like room on the page. I feel that what I love best is making an audience have to imagine things for themselves. I'm trying to leave room for someone to come meet me part of the way."
