Mohonk Mountain Stage Company

Raw, powerful, visceral.
Sweet, tender, quiet.
Rowdy, funny, bawdy.

It's the energy that draws you forward in your seat.
It's the pulse that makes you engage.
It's the spark that makes you think.

The How and The Why
The How and The Why by Sarah Treem
Greetings!

It's time. Time to Save a Seat for MMSC's first performance of the Fall 2012 season, Sarah Treem's  The How and The Why.

In this funny, gripping new play, a mentor and her protégé bond and spar over the personal and professional consequences of their own diametrically opposed theories. Fast and witty, inspiring and provocative, this wry gem from playwright Sarah Treem (of HBO's In Treatment) is both engrossing and powerful.

It's naive to think that science could be a neutral topic.

October 19 & 20 at Unison Arts in New Paltz.

On Friday, November 16 MMSC will participate in One Book, One New Paltz by performing readings from this year's selected book, The Submission by Amy Waldman at 8:00 PM at Unison Arts in New Paltz. A discussion will follow MMSC's performance.

And don't forget to save December 7 & 8 for
After The Revolution, by Amy Herzog (also by Herzog, 4,000 Miles). The story of a brilliant young Emma Joseph devoted to the memory of her famously blacklisted grandfather. When history reveals a shocking truth about the man, the entire family is forced to confront questions of honesty and an allegiance they thought had been long resolved.

And if you have already started your 2013 calendar, you might want to save January 18 & 19 for an encore of one of our most popular offerings from our past season, Julia Cho's fantastical The Language Archive. On February 22 & 23 we will present encore performances of the other most frequently requested show from last year, Geoffrey Naufft's Next Fall.

Here we go again!  Looking forward to seeing each of you.

The How and
The Why
by Sarah Treem

Who thought that science would be a neutral topic?

Smart, Engaging, Incisive

In The How and the Why, more than science is at stake when two women of different generations clash over evolutionary biology and what it means to be female. Emotion and intellect guide their journey through the murky waters of family, love and truth on the eve of a prestigious conference. Despite conflicting research, these two brilliant individuals --one an up-and-coming evolutionary biologist and the other a respected leader in the field -- must find the middle ground between research and relationships.

This new play by Sarah Treem, a writer and producer for HBO's In Treatment, is a thrilling and provocative exploration of sex and gender, family and biology, nurture and nature.
