NewYearsMessage Our New Year's Message to You
Happy New Year! We wish you happiness and hope in 2017. These are challenging and uncertain times, and SHARE will continue to serve women facing breast and ovarian cancers. In addition to our existing services, we'll be working with NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center and the NYC Department of Health to reach more underserved women in need of breast and ovarian cancer services. And we'll be making support available around the country for women facing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and metastatic breast cancer through our online support communities, teleconference support groups and webinar educational programs. Our work to ensure that women have information, support, strength, and hope to face these diseases will continue for as long as it's needed.

On the breast cancer community: "Living in this moment has been very challenging due to the stresses of this disease. Through yoga, meditation, prayer, music, reading and writing I am slowly learning how."

On the ovarian cancer community: "I live in Illinois and was just diagnosed with Stage 1C3 Ovarian Cancer last wk. Last Monday had a total hysterectomy with removal of lymph nodes, appendix and omentectomy. I am scared to start treatments."

On the metastatic breast cancer community: "Hello. I'm a 33 year old mother of one amazing 6yr old boy. I was originally diagnosed with stage II BC in June 2012. The same day they discovered I was pregnant. Crazy... Discovered mets in 2016."

Many thanks for the hard work of the Queens SHARE support group, which recently hosted its annual auction-style holiday fundraiser and party! Participants bid on donated gifts, and all proceeds benefitted SHARE.

This annual tradition began in 2009, the brainchild of Susie Samuels, a dedicated support group participant who passed away from breast cancer a year later. Marilyn Lewis, the Queens SHARE group facilitator, continued the fundraiser for several years before passing the torch to Gwen Harrison and Linda DeSantis.

Gwen says the parties are a great way to end the year: the women enjoy light refreshments while trying to outbid each other on the gifts! "It's our way of giving back, of saying thanks to SHARE," she says. Gwen calculates that the group has raised the incredible amount of $12,937 for SHARE over the last seven fundraisers!

Thank you, QueensSHARE, for your generosity!
