TAPUR 

In mid March, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) rolled out its first clinical trial. The goal of the trial is to give us access to FDA-approved targeted drugs that match a genomic abnormality, even when the drugs have not been approved to treat metastatic breast cancer (MBC).

TESTING IN METASTATIC BREAST CANCER

A recent workshop given by Dr. Ruth Oratz at Living Beyond Breast Cancer's annual conference for those living with metastatic breast cancer offered information on how oncologists use tests to determine the best course of action to treat metastatic breast cancer.  Dr. Oratz is a clinical professor and firm chief of the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.

BEYOND BRCA MUTATIONS: WHAT'S NEW IN THE WORLD OF GENETIC TESTING?

Dr. Mark Robson, Clinic Director of the Clinical Genetics Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, will present a medical update regarding the latest developments in genetic testing as it relates to breast and ovarian cancer.  Topics will include non-BRCA mutations, including both high-penetrance and so-called moderate penetrance mutations, and a framework for management of these.

Her talk will address ways of coping with stress, getting motivated, changing habits, and overcoming barriers to change.  Beth will help you find your own personal motivator to eat well, move well, and sleep well.  Q&A period will follow.

MBC Alliance Update
The Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance is working on numerous initiatives to increase knowledge, build understanding and further research.  SHARE is honored to serve on the Information Task Force working on a project to enable better communication between health care providers and patients. 9 Telephone Support Groups: Choose What Works for You
Connecting with others living with MBC can help you gather information about treatment, dealing with side effects and coping with the fear and anxiety that a metastatic diagnosis brings.  

SHARE offers 9 Telephone Support Group sessions each month in English and 2 in Spanish.  There are also 2 in-person sessions each month in our NYC office.  

A group meets every Monday at 4 PM ET and the first four Thursdays of the month at 6 PM ET.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
Want to Help Out?
SHARE offers Helpline and Group support  for women living with metastatic breast cancer.  We currently have 8 active volunteers who are quite busy as calls to the Helpline are continuously increasing. 

We provide training for both Helpline volunteers and support group facilitators.  

Training is about 2-3 hours and can take place via webinar.  If you are interested, please email Christine.
