ARE PALBOCICLIB AND LETROZOLE THE NEW HERCEPTIN?

Results of the PALOMA-1 trial show the drug palbociclib, "an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) 4 and 6, significantly improved progression-free survival when administered as a first-line treatment in patients with hormone receptor-positive, metastatic breast cancer."

In February, the Phase 2 trial (PALOMA-1) of palbociclib demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in progression-free survival for the combination of palbociclib and letrozole, as compared to letrozole alone in women with ER-positive, HER2-negative locally advanced or newly diagnosed metastatic breast cancer.

MISS DR. DIZON'S WEBINAR?

NEWS FROM ASCO 2014: What is Relevant for Those Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer?

Dr. Don Dizon

Dr. Don Dizon, Associate Professor at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and board certified medical oncologist, discussed news from ASCO including different modalities of treatment such as targeted therapies in a way that is useful to those living with metastatic breast cancer.

One topic of interest discussed by Dr. Dizon, was palliative care as an effective method in increasing the number of months of survival for metastatic patients. He mentions one study presented at ASCO by Dr. Dionne-Odom, that showed a research intervention of palliative care improved survival at one year and improved participants' median overall survival.
