A QUIET NUCLEAR DEAL WITH CHINA

It seemed like a typical day for President Obama. He taped a TV interview on trade, hosted the champion NASCAR team on the South Lawn and met with the defense secretary in the Oval Office.

Not so typical was something that didn't appear that day on the president's public schedule: notification to Congress that he intends to renew a nuclear cooperation agreement with China. The deal would allow Beijing to buy more U.S.-designed reactors and pursue a facility or the technology to reprocess plutonium from spent fuel. China would also be able to buy reactor coolant technology that experts say could be adapted to make its submarines quieter and harder to detect.

The formal notice initially didn't draw any headlines. Its unheralded release on April 21 reflected the administration's anxiety that it might alarm members of Congress and nonproliferation experts who fear China's growing naval power - and the possibility of nuclear technology falling into the hands of third parties with nefarious intentions.

For prayer: This is an "intercessors-should-be-aware" focus. No direct threats are involved, but China continues to advance in power and potential on the world stage. In addition, China owns much more of U.S. debt than most citizens realize. Please pray accordingly and as you are led.

"The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters... Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory." (Ps. 24:1-2, 10)

Ten Days of GLOBAL Prayer!

May 14 - May 23, 2015

Beginning on Ascension Day, May 14, 2015, it is expected that millions of Christians will find ways to pray night and day throughout the ten days leading to Pentecost.
A Ten-Day Prayer Guide for the Global Day of Prayer was written to unite the prayers of believers around the world. It includes scriptures and prayer points for each day from May 14-May 23. "A Prayer for the World" (on pages 18-19) will be read in unison at every gathering around the world on Pentecost Sunday, May 24. This prayer guide is also a great way to promote your event.

LAKE MEAD WATER LEVEL FALLS TO LANDMARK LOW

For Western states enduring a debilitating drought, the news is bone-dry bad: Anemic Lake Mead has hit a historic low level.

The surface of the sprawling reservoir outside Las Vegas late Tuesday afternoon fell to 1,079.76 feet above sea level - nearly 140 feet below capacity - as the prolonged drought continues to evaporate the beleaguered Colorado River system.

Mead's chalky white shoreline is advancing as the waters quickly recede.

For California, Arizona and Nevada, which draw water from Mead, a grim situation is about to get worse: Officials estimate that Mead will drop to the unprecedented low elevation of 1,073 feet as the hottest summer months bear down, with less snowpack in the Rocky Mountains to recharge the Colorado River.

For prayer: This has never been strictly a west coast issue! Readers know that from our first focus on the drought situation, we urged prayer for the entire U.S. Now, with Lake Mead's involvement, a much wider segment of the country and people's need for water is front and center. A question: Is God, even in His amazing grace, waiting for Christian leaders to unite and call for national repentance and intercession, that He might release the desperately needed rain? Intercessors will not discount the possibility that this drought is divine judgment. Will we understand the "If My people. . ." promise?

"12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.'"
(2 Chron. 7:12-14)

DEM PATH TO HOUSE MAJORITY THRU COURTS?

Many Democrats are bullish on their chances of winning back the Senate next year, and most sound confident they can hold on to the White House. Few think they have a prayer of taking back the House of Representatives. So now they're playing the long game - turning to the courts to help deliver what the ballot box won't.

Top Democratic attorneys are arguing before state and federal courts that district maps drawn in a handful of states violate the Voting Rights Act by improperly packing African-American voters into a small number of districts, limiting their influence.

In Virginia, a U.S. District Court ruled last year that the commonwealth's one majority-black district, stretching from Richmond to Hampton Roads, limited those voters. Now, legislators have until Sept. 1 to draw new maps.

For prayer: This article gets into political intrigue, of which both major parties have been guilty. We urge intercessors to seek the Lord's will in their voting and not to rely on redistricting techniques to win the 2016 election advantage. God often gives a nation the government it deserves. May the Church reawaken and call our country back to God's ways. Moses challenged the people in his day, asking, "Who is on the Lord's side?" How will America answer today?

"Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." (Isa. 55:6-7)

"The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord." (Prov. 16:33)

ONLY 16% OF BALTIMORE TEENS WITH BOTH PARENTS

Baltimore and other urban jurisdictions that have low levels of "intact" families are at high risk for social unrest, as evidenced in the recent violence, says a new report.

Families in the which the mothers are married to and living with their children's fathers are the strongest generator of educated youth, low delinquency, economic growth and sexual mores, according to a report released Wednesday by the Marriage & Religion Research Institute (MARRI) at the Family Research Council.

Titled "Violence in Baltimore: Social Science Resources for Journalists and Public Officials," the report notes that in Baltimore, only 16 percent of teens between the ages of 15 and 17 have been raised in home in which the children live with their married, biological parents.

For prayer: One of IFA's founders, Bible teacher Derek Prince, taught that at the root of many of America's family problems was what he called "renegade fathers," that is, men unwilling to accept the responsibilities commensurate with fatherhood. Mothers typically stay and nurture; it is most often the men who leave. Sometimes they cannot stay due to imprisonment. When such men meet Jesus Christ, their hearts are changed. Pray for widespread family restoration, where the hearts of the fathers are turned to their children and the children to their fathers.

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of theLord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." (Mal. 4:5-6)

STUDY FINDS FEWER CHRISTIANS

The United States is becoming a little less Christian, and a little more unaffiliated to any faith, a major study on the nation's changing religious landscape suggested Tuesday.

"The United States remains home to more Christians than any other country in the world," with 70.6 percent of its population, or 173 million adults, identifying as Christian last year, the Pew Research Center said.

But that figure is down from 2007 when 78.4 percent called themselves Christian, Pew said in its 200-page study, titled "America's Changing Religious Landscape."

For prayer: A factor missing from the above statistics is that many people identifying as Christians are only "cultural Christians," not born-again followers of Jesus Christ. Many are in liberal churches identified with apostate denominations, people without biblical convictions. Such is reality, not cited here with a mean spirit. We urge intercessors to pray for widespread revival to awaken lukewarm church members who will turn to the Lord while there is still time.

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: 'Awake you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.'" (Eph. 5:11-14)
