Intercessors for America Brief Survey

ISLAMIC CLOUD OVER BRENNAN AND HAGEL

Two key national security nominations by President Obama are up for confirmation following Congress' recess this week: former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to be secretary of defense, and John O. Brennan, the president's key counterterrorism adviser, to be the director of the CIA. Both candidates have had to address issues based on their past and current activities and associations. Troublingly, a number of questions still remain unanswered.

Pray that all key questions regarding the placement of these two men to high security positions of national leadership be fully resolved before any approvals to these posts are made. Pray that all pertinent information be brought forth and that full disclosure be made to the American public.

"Truth shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven." (Psalm 85: 11)

KIDNAPPING LOBBY IS AT IT AGAIN

What's the real message behind Barack Obama's call in his State of the Union speech for taxpayer-funded "universal" preschool and his trip to a Georgia preschool last Thursday for photo ops?

It's that the government wants to get its hands on our children even earlier.

From the time children are five or six years old up through their senior year, government schools run by left-wing teachers unions have them at least seven hours a day, five days a week during most of the year.

Pray for our public schools in your state and community. Ask the Lord to have His way in the lives of our children. Speak life into our schools through your prayers. Support the "See You at the Pole" event in your local schools. Pray for all the school teachers, support staff, bus drivers, school board members, principals and state educational leaders.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

COLLEGIATE DAY OF PRAYER

It is such a privilege to be a part of this grass roots prayer movement. Every year I continue to look forward to joining with believers across the nation in praying for spiritual awakening on our college campuses.

This year, I got onto the new C.D.O.P. website and adopted the University of Montana as my campus. I'll be joining a group of friends on February 28th to pray for the U of M, as well as cry out for Jesus to move on our campuses. Please adopt a campus that is near and dear to your heart and join me on this special day.

Pray for all universities and colleges in your state and community.

"I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8)

"WALL OF SEPARATION" BLOCKING PRACTICE OF FAITH

Catholic adoption agencies have been forced to close their doors in Illinois, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., because their religious beliefs about marriage were deemed unacceptable by their jurisdictions.

A graduate student in Michigan was expelled from a counseling program because her religious beliefs about marriage were deemed unacceptable by school officials.

Christian pharmacists in Illinois were told to find other professions because their religious beliefs regarding when life begins were deemed unacceptable by the state.

Pray that government leaders will know the importance of encouraging righteous development of youth and that a healthy respect for God's ways be honored in the development of government regulations. Homosexual marriage is an abomination to God and promoting such behavior is sin. It is totally unacceptable for Christians serving in organizations to allow these unrighteous edicts.

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

THE PLAN FOR NO-GAY PROM

A quiet Indiana community known for its parks and corn festival has become the latest setting for the debate over gay rights and bullying after several area residents, including some high schoolers, proposed holding a non-school sanctioned "traditional" prom that would ban homosexual students.

School officials and many residents of Sullivan, a city of about 4,200 near the Illinois border, have scrambled to distance themselves from the controversy caused by the group's plans and some strong, anti-homosexual remarks made by one of its members.

Pray for righteous discernment regarding the best way to stand up to spiritual conflicts in our communities.

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." (1 Corinthians 16:13)

G. WASHINGTON'S EXAMPLE ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Instead of celebrating George Washington's birthday, this week we have lumped him in together with no-names including Millard Fillmore and William Henry Harrison as we celebrated a generic "Presidents' Day."

But George Washington was not simply a President. He was the indispensible man of the American Founding. Washington's words, thoughts, and deeds as a military commander, a President, and a patriotic leader make him arguably the greatest statesman in our history.

Pray that we as Americans will stand fast in the liberty that Christ Jesus has given to us by His inheritance and faith. Pray to the Lord for His righteous will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Pray for an increase in moral discernment by all national leaders. Through Christ Jesus all things are possible.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)

"'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes."
(Mark 9:23)

WAL-MART EXECUTIVES NOTE SLOW FEBRUARY START

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. had the worst sales start to a month in seven years as payroll-tax increases hit shoppers already battling a slow economy, according to internal e-mails obtained by Bloomberg News.

"In case you haven't seen a sales report these days, February MTD sales are a total disaster," Jerry Murray, Wal- Mart's vice president of finance and logistics, said in a Feb. 12 e-mail to other executives, referring to month-to-date sales. "The worst start to a month I have seen in my 7 years with the company."

Pray for the needs of all Americans to be met in creative ways in the months and years ahead. Pray for an increase in employment for those in need of sustainable jobs.

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
