Thank You from Sunflower Hill!

As we enter the month of November, we wanted to take just a moment to express our gratitude to all members of the Sunflower Hill community. 

  • We are thankful for our families who are on the journey with us to create a sustainable residential community for all with development delays.
  • We are thankful for our supporters - friends, community leaders, advisors, elected officials and the corporations who believe in our mission and vision and have lent their expertise to us along the way. 
  • We are thankful for our donors and those who have graciously supported and attended our events.
  • We're thankful for our peer communities and the organizations that are leading the way nationwide to ensure residential opportunities are available for all.  Thank you for allowing us to use your best practices.  

 

John F. Kennedy once said,

"We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives." 

 

So we are doing just that!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!


Giving Tuesday is December 2nd! 

Did you know that December 2, 2014 is "Giving Tuesday?" The day after Thanksgiving is commonly known as Sale Day. December 1 is known as Cyber Monday. And Tuesday December 2 has now become 'Giving Tuesday.'

It's an opportunity for us all to give back to our community, in a number of ways. Sunflower Hill is always looking for volunteers, advisors, partners as well as contributions as we continue our journey towards a sustainable, intentional community for individuals with special needs.   Please consider supporting us on this special day!

Back by Popular Demand - Our Financial Planning Symposium 

-Reserve January 31, 2015-

 

Sunflower Hill is bringing back Special Needs Estate Planning Attorney Kevin Urbatsch Esq, and two new speakers, Jim Huyck Public Benefits Advocate/Consultant, and Jon Elfin, Financial Planner with Sagemark Consulting, to help us navigate the world of special needs trusts, conservatorships, Medi-cal, SSI, SSDI, and the IPP transition process. This morning seminar (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) will allow you to get an overview of what's needed once your child turns 18. All proceeds from the symposium benefit Sunflower Hill and our vision towards an intentional, sustainable, special needs community. 

 

Cost is $65 for individuals or $100 per couple. Register online here. Price will increase on Jan. 21, so register early!

 

Sunflower Hill Cards now on sale in Pleasanton!

Thank you to Milfleur, a wonderful boutique in downtown 
Pleasanton, for offering to sell Sunflower Hill 
greeting cards! Each set is $20 and features the art work of 
12 members of the Sunflower Hill community. 

Stop by Milfleur today at 728 Main Street and please extend your thanks to Terri and her commitment to our organization! As a reminder, cards can also be purchased online and they make wonderful Christmas presents! 

Do you work at Lawrence Livermore National Lab?

If so, we hope you'll consider Sunflower Hill as part of this year's HOME campaign. HOME (Helping Others More Effectively) is the lab's annual outreach effort to help local organizations through employee contributions.   Thanks to matching funds by the Lab's parent organization, Lawrence Livermore National Security, or LLNS, any contribution you make as an employee will be matched!

 

Bay Area Autism Holiday Giving Guide!

Thank you to the Autism Society of the San Francisco Bay Area for creating the first "Bay Area Autism Holiday Giving Guide!" Sunflower Hill is included in this guide listing 44 local autism-serving nonprofits. This holiday season, please ask friends, family, and co-workers to consider supporting one of these local nonprofits! 

 

Join our Board!

Sunflower Hill is a 501c3 nonprofit organization with a formal board of directors and advisory council. Board members are elected annually. If you're interested in joining us please fill out this application and send it to info@sunflowerhill.org. 

 

We are especially interested in individuals with fundraising, grant writing and digital media and software tools expertise. You do not have to have a special needs family member to be on our board. For more information, contact Susan at 925-321-5757.
