Christmas Cheer - My Favorite Hot Chocolate Recipe!

Here is a little Christmas cheer that goes a long way on those chilly winter nights. It is my favorite hot chocolate recipe from Williams Sonoma called the Peppermint Bark Hot Chocolate.

Hot Chocolate - Peppermint Bark Recipe

In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, warm 1 cup of milk (substitute with rice, soy, almond, etc.) until bubbles just begin to form around the edges of the pan. Add 5 TBS of hot chocolate mix into the milk and stir until completely dissolved. Pour into mug and serve immediately. Serving size is for one. You can double the ingredients to serve two people. Enjoy!

You can purchase the canister of Hot Chocolate online or in Williams Sonoma stores for $21.95 plus tax. Hot chocolate also comes regular without the Peppermint Bark and in  Salted Caramel as well.

Holiday Tips for Couples

by Sheri E Ragland

Even though the holidays are a time for sharing, giving, and fun, they can be very stressful! Each year, I find simple ways to spend quality time with my husband no matter what. Here are 5 simple ways you can reduce stress and plan quality time with your love!

  1. The holidays are meant to be a time of giving and sharing mixed with lots of fun. Use your judgement when it comes to spending. As I get older, I find that spending time with family is more important than the stress of trying to find the perfect gift for everyone. Make a list for gifts and a budget for each item. And, try to stick to it. Plan time for you and your partner or spouse to shop together. It helps to reduce the stress if there are two of you shopping together. Make it fun. Do lunch, while shopping or dinner. Or, see a movie together after you are done, if you are not too tired. Or, you can even wrap the gifts together.
  2. Plan some time together during the holidays. Whether it is dinner for two or popcorn and a late night movie at home, it will help rekindle that spark of togetherness, which strengthens your relationship.
  3. Write a card that boasts of things that your partner or spouse did or does for you and place it on his or her pillow or in the car on the driver's seat. Make sure that you tell them thanks for those wonderful deeds. It will make all of the difference in the world. Your partner or spouse will feel appreciated for your special gratitude.
  4. Your spiritual well-being is especially important during the holiday season. Spend time attending a church service that honors Christmas and the story of Jesus Christ. After all, He is the reason for giving. The holiday season really isn't about the commercialism of Christmas. It is about the perfect gift that continues to give - Jesus Christ! I guarantee your spirit will be lifted!
  5. I love jazz. I love to spend time at a favorite spot in New York City called Measure at the Langham Place (formerly Setai Hotel) on Fifth Avenue listening to smooth jazz, while engaging in sweet conversation with my husband about  anything and everything. The experience is simply tantalizing, relaxing, and fun!! The lounge has jazz nightly from 8-11pm. There is no cover charge. The lounge provides an amazing wine list and delicious appetizers! Be prepared to spend about $50 for two glasses of wine and an appetizer for two.
