What's Your Cookie Goal? 

Cadette Troop 30372 in Hoover will use their cookie money to attend their Service Unit Camporee at KPC, where they want to do archery, kayaking and the high ropes course. They will lead a flag retirement ceremony and also go on a troop-only camping trip at Camp Coleman where they can work on their outdoor cooking and other camping skills. Way to go, girls! Share your 2015 cookie goal by emailing the communications department.

Daisy's Jam

Daisy's Jam 2015 is just around the bend! Daisy's Jam includes camping overnight for Girl Scouts of all ages at Talladega Superspeedway infield. Events are planned for November 20-22, 2015. 

Let's head "Back to Basics." There will be competitions of knot tying, camping scenarios, knife skills, Girl Scout ceremonies for the troops attending and much, much moreYour troop can earn points for a troop banner, SWAPS and other activities.

Look for more information regarding the competitions and requirements for all program levels coming soon. 

The planning committee would love your help in planning the events and/or helping to setup the day of the event. Our next committee meeting will be held February, 19th at the Birmingham Service Center from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. If you want to be apart and are unable to attend the meeting in person there will be a GoToMeeting call number available to call in.

Camping Corner
Campership Information

 

Girls with demonstrated financial need can apply for a Campership to help them attend the summer camp program of their choice. Camperships help to ensure that every girl, everywhere has access to outdoor education opportunities. Please note deadlines below when submitting a Campership Application.  Application is available on page 48 of Pathway Opportunities.

 

  • February 1: Applications must be received at the Birmingham Service Center. (Feb 1 is a firm deadline; email address for notification is mandatory.)
  • February 2: Data from applications received by Feb. 1 is transcribed and forwarded to the Campership Committee for screening and review.
  • February 10: Campership Committee meets for group review of applications that were received by Feb. 1.
  • February 12-15: Campership award amounts are finalized for applications that were received by Feb. 1
  • February 16-18: Campership applicants whose forms were received by Feb. 1 are notified via email. Please note, if an email address is not provided, notification is impossible.
  • February 21: Registration begins for summer camp programs.
  • February 23-27:  If funding remains after all "on time" applications are awarded, the Campership Committee may review any applications received after Feb. 1. Please note, if an application is received after Feb. 1, notification of award amount will be well after the Feb. 22 opening day of registration.

New this year! Instead of a camp catalog, we will be sending post cards to announce the 2015 summer camp season. Online registration for summer camp programs for all four locations begins February 21st.

NEW Let's Go Troop Camping Training Dates Added

This course is required for at least one troop adult volunteer who will prepare the troop for camping. This course will meet the requirements for troop camping on or off Council property. Let's Go Troop Camping will take you through the how-to's of tent camping, planning the trip, fire building, building an cooking meals, camp property reservation procedures, safety, kaper charts, program ideas and so much more! You will prepare your meals and snacks with provided ingredients. Dress comfortably for outdoor weather and always wear socks and closed-toe shoes at camp. 

This course should be taken at least six to eight weeks before your scheduled troop camping trip.

Cost: $20 per participant; includes meals, snacks and lodging

World Thinking Day

 
Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. The theme for World Thinking Day 2015 is girls worldwide say "we can create peace through partnerships."   Check out these resources.
