December 16, 2014 - In This Issue:
Dear Girl Scouts, Volunteers and Friends:

Thank you for welcoming me into the GSNCA family. I am excited to be in Alabama (and not just because I get a break from snowy Wisconsin!)  I look forward to using my expertise to help improve upon the great work that this council has in motion.

In the spirit of the forthcoming new year, I have challenged the staff to excel above their regular customer service standards. Our staff members know that each and every one of you deserves a timely answer to whatever question you may have, and our resolution is to make sure your inquires are addressed as quickly as possible. If you have a question and do not hear back from a GSNCA staff member within 24 hours, I invite you to email me personally at mcharles@girlscoutsnca.org. Together we can find the answers to move our girls and this council forward.

Mary Charles

GSNCA Interim CEO

Call for Adult Award Nominations
'Tis the season for recognizing outstanding Girl Scout volunteers! Nominations for GSUSA and council level awards are due by January 30, 2015.  Service level award nominations are due March 15, 2015.  Giving a gift of recognition is as easy
as 1-2-3.
Step 1:  Look up past awards volunteers may have received in our past recipients list.

Step 2:  See Adult Recognitions At-a-Glance to determine which award best fits the volunteer's accomplishments and service.

Step 3:  Complete the appropriate award nomination forms that are located on our website. Interactive nomination forms will be available 12/22/2014.

Over the holidays please take time to think about the volunteers in your area who deliver outstanding Girl Scout program and take action!

Talk with your service unit manager and other volunteers -- get them involved in providing information for the nomination and to write letters of endorsement. It isn't hard to nominate someone; it just takes a little thought.  For assistance contact Karen S Wales, Project Implementation Director at kwales@girlscoutsnca.org or 256-425-0866.

Calling All Media Mavens!

As we gear up for Cookie Season, the communications department would like to form a small group of Girl Scouts and volunteers who are interested in helping spread the good news of Girl Scouting to our local news outlets. Assignments may include appearing on local talk shows, morning radio stations or in news segments, writing editorials for local newspapers and appearing in council-generated videos or voice-overs. Media Mavens will have the opportunity to promote other Girl Scout events such as summer camp registration, fall recruitment, Women of Distinction and program events.

Are you interested in becoming a Media Maven?! Contact Director of Communications and Marketing Hannah Wallace at hwallace@girlscoutsnca.org. In-person media training and head-shots will be provided.
