SI Ventura Donates Stethoscopes to Ventura College Nursing Students
Stethoscopes are an important and expensive part of a nurse's arsenal of equipment. SIV, after much thought and consideration, committed funds to donate quality stethoscopes to nursing students at Ventura College.
Over the last two semesters, we have handed out 14 stethoscopes engraved with our Soroptimist logo. We have confidence the recipients will be off to a good start in their nursing education and will be able to use their stethoscopes well into their nursing careers.
On Monday, February 8 a group of SIV members met the recipients and were delighted to hear from the women themselves what a valuable addition our donation has made to their education. Many of the women are returning students with families and very tight budgets. They expressed such gratitude at having this necessary item provided for them by our Soroptimist Club.

The curriculum taught includes, but is not limited to, electrical, welding, plumbing, carpentry, painting, heavy equipment operation, hand tool basics and construction safety to name a few disciplines.
The SI Ventura ladies were so impressed with the concept of the camp they implored Laurie to open one for women of all ages. We were assured that volunteer positions were always available in the camp.

Presidents
Message
This year has started with much activity! Committees have been meeting; new plans are forming for our life skills program; stethoscopes have been handed out to VC nursing students; award applications for Live Your Dream are with the judges and the Violet Richardson applications are due the 15th of this month.
Our annual Stop Human Trafficking event is now a joint effort of 6 local clubs and will take place March 9th at the Ventura Government Center. Please plan to attend,if possible, as this information impacts women and girls in our community.
And very importantly, we have our own big event coming April 16 which will:
- celebrate 85 years of continuous service in our community as Soroptimist International of Ventura
- honor women who have been with us for more than 30 years
- grant our Live Your Dream and Violet Richardson awards
- fundraise to continue our important service to women and girls
It looks like a lot to do; it feels like a lot to do and how blessed we are to do it with this group of amazing women!
Kay Armstrong
