Laurie Bennett will Speak about Camp NAWIC at the January 27th Program Meeting
Ventura County's Camp NAWIC  is a five day, hands on construction basics learning course for high school girls. The curriculum taught includes, but is not limited to, electrical, welding, plumbing, carpentry, painting, heavy equipment operation, hand tool basics and construction safety to name a few disciplines.

The camp teaches responsibility, self esteem, team work and team building as well as promotes empowerment for young women to problem solve in a male dominated industry/profession.

These young women may not have an interest in construction before they begin the camp but will have learned many personal skills that can be used throughout their lives no matter what profession they ultimately chose.

Happy New Year to you all!

I find myself excited at the new possibilities that await us this year.

Our goal to reach out to women and girls remains the same but we may be doing it with a new twist.

Lorie Balzer was an inspiration. She created our Life Skills program and shepherded it through the last few years. Now without her, we need to look at the program anew. This is an opportunity to reach new groups as well as to continue our ties with Salvation Army and Tender Life. I am hoping, using our Life Skills program pattern, that each of us can input our visions and ideas to bring Lorie's goals to even greater fruition. We will be discussing this further at our next business meeting. Please think/ imagine what your ideas may be to accomplish this.

It is also exciting to be celebrating our club's 85th anniversary on April 16! This event will be a combination of honoring our long-time members that joined our club between 1980 - 1985 and honoring our scholarship award winners for this year. It is also a major fundraising opportunity!

This will be a way to spotlight our club and its long time commitment to our community.

I hope you will all join with me as we step into our future.
