The 2015-2016 Board was Installed at the June 24th Program Meeting

Our new board members for the 2015-2016 year were installed at the June 24th Program Meeting in a lovely ceremony led by Sherry Cash, District 1 Director and fellow SIV member. (See above for a listing of the new board members and their positions.)

Arlene Briggle received our gratitude and a small gift in appreciation for her many years of service on the SIV board.

We look forward to another
productive year!

July 22 Lunch Meeting will Feature 2015-2016 Committee Planning

We will launch our committee activities and planning as a group at the July 22 program meeting. So many of our committee focuses are interrelated and therefore it will expedite the start to hold them all in one location at the same time to kick things off.

Below, please find the committees with the chairperson, a brief description of responsibilities and the members.

SIV Focus Meeting Attendees Create a Plan for 2015-2016

Our annual Focus meeting was held on June 20 in the Cross Over Building at the River Community Church. The meeting was well attended by SI Ventura members. We enjoyed delicious bagels, fruit and coffee while we established our goals and objectives for the 2015-2016 Club year. We also determined where we wanted to disburse the funds raised during this past year. Additionally, we considered areas to concentrate our efforts and fundraising activities for the coming year.

The attendees also participated in a exercise known as
a SWOT analysis. A structured planning method used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of our organization. It involves specifying the objectives of the club and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving our objectives.
  • Strengths: characteristics of the club that give it an advantage over others.
  • Weaknesses: characteristics that place our club at a disadvantage relative to others.
  • Opportunities: elements that the club could exploit to its advantage.
  • Threats: elements in the environment that could cause trouble for our club and it's projects.

Identification of SWOTs is important because they can help to form later steps in planning to achieve our objectives.

Ventura Soroptimists Participate in the
AmazonSmile Program

What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to our Soroptimist International of Ventura.

How do I select a charitable organization to support when shopping on AmazonSmile?
On your first visit to AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com ), you need to select Soroptimist International of Ventura to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. Amazon will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make at  smile.amazon.com will result in a donation.

How much of my purchase does Amazon donate?
The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases. The purchase price is the amount paid for the item minus any rebates and excluding shipping & handling, gift-wrapping fees, taxes, or service charges. From time to time, there may be special, limited time promotions that increase the donation amount on one or more products or services or provide for additional donations to charitable organizations.

AmazonSmile Donations to Charitable Organizations
100% of the donation amount generated from your eligible purchase on AmazonSmile will be donated. The donation amounts generated by your purchases are combined with the donation amounts from all other customers that selected the same organization, and each quarter the AmazonSmile Foundation makes donations to registered charitable organizations by electronic funds transfer. Donations are generally transferred approximately 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter.

Please tell all your family and friends to choose Soroptimist International of Ventura to support in their Amazon online purchases through the AmazonSmile program.

Life Skills Task Force Meeting

SIV received requests from both City Center and the Salvation Army to conduct our signature Life Skills Program starting in the month of August.  The new population from City Center may require a modification to the current program content. We are also researching  the addition of a mentoring component  for participants after the completion of Life Skills.

Lorie Balzer, Life Skills Program Developer, will hold a task force meeting Tuesday, July 14th, 5:30 pm at 702 County Square Dr., Ventura for anyone interested and, as always, all members are encouraged to take part in this important club program.

SI Ventura is 85 Years old!!!

Coming this fall we will be kicking off the holiday season with an 85th anniversary celebration and fundraising event.

Presidents Message

I want to tell you all how pleased I am that we will be working as a team this year "having each other's back."

The board has decided to share positions and Cyndi Damron and I will be sharing many aspects of  president.

I am delighted that we as a club will be working towards fulfilling the Soroptimist goal "to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment."

As a club we will continue this with our Life Skills program. We have new opportunities to expand this outreach to new venues in our community. We also want to create new service opportunities to include more hands on activities.

For our program meeting this month we will gather in a combined committee meeting. All of your ideas regarding service and fundraising are important and wanted. Please bring ideas to share.

Not to leave out membership and public awareness, as they both play an integral/indispensable function for success.

I hope we will be excited and motivated to make our Soroptimist goal possible while really getting to know and enjoy each other!

Kay Armstrong
