Greetings Parents and Junior Tour Players,

First and foremost, have and wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving. If you're traveling, please be safe during the Holiday Season!

The golf course was in spectacular condition considering we had 2-4 inches of rain the night before as the storms swept through the North Florida area. Fearing cancellation of the event I went to the website early Sunday morning to look at the hourly forecast, to find that we were going to be clear to play as the storms had move north of the St. Augustine area. Once again Mother Nature gave NFJG a BIG smile and a wink as she passed by.

Many thanks to the Professional Staff led by Head Golf Professional Anthony Vaughn and the Slammer and Squire Maintenance Department for getting the course in shape for us to play

What a great day we had Sunday and thank you for joining us and making our day complete. If the sun had shined it would have been the PERFECT day for golf!

Seventy players were in Sunday's field during the Hall of Fame Invitational at the World Golf Village-Slammer and Squire. Jack Landis is one of our NFJG TOUR players that will tell you the day was perfect as he carded his lowest 18-hole round of his tournament career tying for first place with Will Davis in the Boys 10-12 Division. Dragon Theam and Andrew Farraye would most certainly second the motion as they finished tied for the low round of the day at one under par 71 and tied for the lead in the Elite Tour Boys 13-15 Division. Ben Donlick, I'm sure would give a thumbs up as he claimed his second title in his three years with NFJG. Guess where his first win was at? Yup, Slammer and Squire - November 17th, 2013.

What would really have made a day even more perfect, is if Reni Jancsik's ball would had traveled just six more inches for the ACE (Hole-In-One Club???). Perfect is Kyle Jewett leading a strong field of 16-18 year old boys and young Jackson Klauk claiming his first victory of the Foundation Tour. Finally, what's perfect were smiles from two of our champions in the Girls divisions as Sara McKevitt and Ainsley Mann chalked up another victory on TOUR.

Foundation Girls

Jancsik In Charge - Nearly Aces!

From Left to Right: Julia Wallace, Champion Reni Jancsik

and Runner Up Marie Tesiero

Our Foundation Girls Division continues to grow. This week we were joined by two new players, Kyle Turner and Anna Rose Setzer. We hope you enjoy your experience as we grow your game together. Reni Janscik was our Foundation Girls Gold Medalist as she beat the field by 13 strokes. Janscik's outstanding round of one birdie, two pars and four bogeys resulted in a wonderful score of 43 to lead the five player field. Marie Tesiero and Julia Wallace finished second and third respectively. Honorable mention goes out to Kylie Turner who tied for third place, but lost in a scorecard play-off,
Reni Jancsik nearly had a perfect hole-in one- on the 7th hole. Watching and listening to Reni explain her shot and watching her reactions as she smiled from ear to ear was priceless. The only thing that could have been better is if the ball had traveled those few extra inches to find the bottom of the cup. Great shot Reni and great playing to you and all our Foundation Girls. Make sure you get in the Hole-In-One Club because next time it could fall.

Elite Tour Boys (16-18)

Jewett Earns Gold!

Left to Right: Noah Bailey, Runner Up Luis Lopez Malo and Champion Kyle Jewett

The Boys 16-18 competition is starting to heat up. Thirteen of some of areas best teed it up with hopes of some great play and keen competition and that we had. By the end of nine holes Kyle Jewett had a commanding lead of three strokes over Luis Lopez Malo and Noah Bailey with Justin Roy just two more strokes back. Jewett's perfect nine of eight pars and one birdie on the par-5 8th hole was enough to allow him to breathe easy as he moved to the tough back nine.

Pars on holes 10 and 11 created some more comfort, but a hiccup on the tough par-4 12th by Jewett led to a triple bogey seven bringing Malo, Bailey and Roy back into contention, interrupting the steady heart-beat of the leader. Justin Roy fought back hard with three birdies on the back nine, but tripled the 12th as well adding a double bogey on the 17th to distance himself from the leader.

Malo, playing some flawless golf just could not mount the birdie attack needed to overcome the leader, but steady play would help him catch up.

A come back birdie on the 14th once again gave Jewett the cushion he needed to bring it home, so he thought, but a double bogey on the 17th would once again open the door for the followers to attack, but the one think everyone knows about the Slammer and Squire is that the finishing holes are not the attack holes, they are merely the hang on holes you hope to finish with pars.

Congratulations Kyle Jewett (75) on a fine win. Finishing in the Runner-up spot was Luis Lopez Mayo (76) and Third was Noah Bailery (77).

Elite and Rising Tour Boys (10-12)

Landis Shoots Career Low

From Left to Right: Champion Will Davis

 and Bronze Medalist Alexander Waller

Will Davis would par eight of his first 10 holes and birdie the 11th taking a five stroke lead into the 12th hole, but disaster would strike as he endured back-to-back double bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes to allow the steady play of Jack Landis to contend for the championship. Landis started out the day with double bogey-par-double bogey, but then strung five straight pars to stay alive in the 18-hole race.

Alexander Waller and newcomer Marcos Park started out in the similar fashion putting themselves behind the eight ball early and trying to play catch up. Both would fire a great back nines of 40, but a little too late. Waller birdied the tough par-3 2nd while Park carded the only birdie of the day on hole #18.

The story of the day would be the best round ever for Jack Landis in tournament play who would shoot a back nine 39 with a birdie on 16th hole to tie for the lead as Davis battled the tough finishing holes.

Landis, finishing 30 minutes ahead of Davis didn't realize his opportunity for victory and departed the golf course for other commitments before seeing the complete results.

Tied at 80 a call to the tee box for both Landis and Davis was made for a sudden death playoff, but only one player would report and the playoff determined with Davis the Champion and Landis the Runner up. Finishing third was Alexander Waller who nipped out Marcos Park by two strokes.

Way to go Boy's, that's how it's done!  Great playing!

Foundation Boys

Jackson Klauk Bring Home

Victory #1!

From Left to Right: Danny Erickson, Champion Jackson Klauk and Runner Up Phillip Dunham

The Foundation Boys Division just got a little more competitive with the recent addition of Jackson Klauk and new comer Shawn Coultoff. Welcome to the TOUR Boys! This is Shawn' first event, while Jackson has competed in two events prior.

This week at the Slammer and Squire it was Phillip Dunham who came off the first tee box ready to play with three straight pars, taking a one shot lead over Jackson Klauk and two over Danny Erickson.

For Dunham it was the par-5 4th that presented some difficulty as he carded a nine on the difficult hole while Klauk and Erickson both recorded bogey six. It's not an easy hole and if you take the wrong lines or take the risk reward chances you will end up with some pretty high numbers. Like a true champion Dunham bounced right back with a bogey-par on the 5th and 6th holes.

This week it was Klauk who managed the golf course well and to stayed away from the BIG number. In the end it was Klauk (42) donning the Gold Medal with Phillip Dunham (44) taking Silver. Danny Erickson (46) taking the Silver and running close behind was first timer Shawn Coultoff (47) and TOUR veteran Jack Brophy (48). Great playing Boys!

Elite Tour Girls

From Left to Right: Anastasia Mashevsky and Champion Sara McKevitt

Our Elite Tour Girls only had just two players in the field for this event, but judging by the smiles in the photo they both had a wonderful time. Sara McKevitt started out the day just one over par for the first five holes, but ran into a buzz saw on holes 6, 7 and 8 suffering three double bogeys in a row. Most would been frustrated and lose the focus, but McKevitt found the strength the spark to keep pushing forward, a sign of a true champion keeping both nines respectable, carding a 43-41 total 84 to take home the gold medal.

Like McKevitt, Anastasia Mashevsky had five double bogeys amongst 13 well played holes and would receive the Silver Medal.

Keep smiling Ladies and we'll see you at the next event. Know that our NFJG Team is very proud of your accomplishments as one year ago I remember scores were in the 100 teens.

Elite Tour Boy's (13-15)

Farraye Makes Impressive Charge and

Theam Fights Back!

From Left to Right: Andrew Porter, Champion Dragon Theam and Runner Up Andrew Farraye

Fresh off his four under par round of 68 at the Amelia River Golf Club last week during a local tournament Dragon Theam continued his outstanding play at the Slammer and Squire.

With a two under par 34 on the front nine Theam recorded three birdies and one bogey giving him a four shot advantage over another outstanding young up and comer Andrew Farraye. Farraye, who loves playing the WGV-Slammer and Squire and plays the course well was four shots back and had his work cut out for himself. Not an impossible task, but a tough one for sure when competing against a quality player like Theam. Five holes into the back nine Theam continued his steady play with five straight pars while Farraye birdied the 10th to pick up one stroke, but gave it back with a bogey at the 12th.

Andrew Porter another hard charger made a short charge with back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12, but could manage no others to continue the come-back bid.

On hole 15 Farraye picked up another stroke on the leader when Theam bogeyed and then the charge that made the difference. While Theam may have birdied the difficult par-5 16th Farraye managed to EAGLE the hole picking up another stroke and then with a birdie on the 17th applied the pressure. Theam now just one stroke ahead just needed to tie the final hole charge of Farraye, but on the 18th it was bogey five for Theam and a fabulous par save to tie for the lead in regulation.

After verifying scores a sudden play-off was conducted starting on the first hole. Where both players hit fair tee shots. During the approach shots to the green both hit great shots, but Farraye hit a flyer and flew the green, while Theam hit it to 15 feet from the flag. Faced with a very difficult up and down Farraye hit an amazing pitch to one foot of the cup, but Theam would give no more opportunities to lose the win, as he drained the putt for a birdie three.

I ask you, does it really get any better than this? If it does, we're all in for some very exciting golf finishes.

Great Job Gentlemen! Finishing third was Andrew Porter with a fine score of 76.

 Rising Tour Boys (13-14)

Donlick - A True WGV Champion!

From Left to Right: Eric Poehlman, Runner Up Nick Brumme and Champion Ben Donlick

Ben Donlick fired a pair of 39's to bring home the Gold once again at the Slammer and Squire. A Three year veteran of the NFJG TOUR Donlick has Two wins under his belt and both wins came on the difficult Slammer and Squire nearly one year apart.

With birdie on holes #7 and #16 Donlick outlasted the steady play of Eric Poehlman and Nick Brumme who both played outstanding golf keeping in touch with the leader the entire round. After hole 15 it was a three way tie for the lead and any ones event to win, but a birdie on the par-5 16th would give Donlick the lead once again by one over Poehlman who pared the hole and by two over Brumme who bogeyed the hole, now three back. For this three way horse race it would be the 18th hole that would decide who would be champion. What a great way to finish a round!

Donlick going into the 18th with a one stroke lead would just need to stay out of trouble or match scores with his closest challenger, but as the 18th typically does, it played difficult as Donlick and closest challenger Poehlman both found themselves in trouble off the tee.

Brumme striped the drive 240 down the middle of the fairway and was now back in it, to win it, but realistically needed a birdie, but in the end could only manage a par, but what a nice par it was!

Both Donlick and Poehlman double bogeyed the hole, but it was the outstanding birdie on the 16th hole that gave Donlick the edge.

Great Playing Boys! Keep up the great work! Be PROUD of ourselves!

Foundation Girls

Battle To The End

From Left to Right: Olivia Whitten, Champion Ainsley Mann and Runner Up Tori Mouton

In the Rising Tour GIrls Olivia Whitten started the round with an exciting 20 foot putt for birdie on the very first hole to take the early lead, while Chloe Schiavone would double, but bouncing right back with outstanding birdies on the 2nd and 4th hole to right the ship.

Tori Mouton started out steady with bogey-par-par and Ainsley Mann with a par-bogey-bogey to keep the beginning of the race to the finish tight, but it would be the 4th, 5th and 6th holes that would separate the players momentarily, as Mouton double bogeyed the par-5 4th, Mann triple bogeyed the par-4 5th and Witten doubled the par-4 6th.

For a few holes the lead was bouncing around from player to player like a Ping-Pong ball. At the end of nine it was Tori Mouton (42) with a two stroke lead over Mann and Whitten. After coming off a triple bogey on the 9th and then a double bogey on the 10th Whitten found herself well back, but fortitude and excellent play resulted in paring 7 of the next 8 holes keeping pace with the two leaders.

Going into the 16th hole with the lead by two Mouton found herself in trouble as she double bogeyed the hole allowing Mann to tie for the lead with a par. Whitten would also double bogey the 16th hole costing her a shot at the comeback  lead.

Chloe Schiavone mounted a great come back with pars on seven of the back nine holes, but a quadruple bogey eight on the par-4 16th cost her dearly as she drove into the trees right and had difficulty escaping.

In the end two were tied, Mann and Mouton on a roller coaster of a round. A sudden death play-off ensued and Mann won for the second straight event in a row. Olivia Whitten would take home the Bronze. Great job Ladies!
Thank you players, parents and friends for your continued support of the NFJG Foundation and the NFJG TOUR!
