Dear North Shore School District 112 Community:
At this evening's Board of Education meeting, I informed the board that I will retire from North Shore School District 112 effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.  This was a very difficult decision for me.  I am privileged to have spent more than 40 years of my career in education, and to have served school districts in three different states.  I am especially honored that the last five of those years have been at North Shore School District 112, where I have worked with a fiercely dedicated staff in a community that is passionate about children and education.

During my tenure in this district, I have had the opportunity to visit every classroom on multiple occasions.  The zeal with which our teachers and principals approach their work is an inspiration. They have an unparalleled commitment to fostering creative and innovative teaching methods in a way that nurtures children and inspires a love of learning. I have also been especially fortunate to have as colleagues some of the most talented principals and administrators I have ever met.

The intellectual resources available in our district and the beauty and the brilliance of all of our children have been a source of amazement. Our community is known for having high hopes and expectations for its children and its educators, and this translates into strong community involvement. Nowhere have I seen such a powerful partnership of community organizations that join together and dedicate themselves to bettering the lives of those who reside in the district.  However, for me, it will always be the children in this district who have had the most profound affect on me professionally and personally and have enhanced my life in so many ways.

North Shore School District 112 has strong leadership, and dedicated board members, professionals and parents who are passionate about the quality of education their children receive.  I thank everyone I have worked with over the last five years for their leadership, hard work and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our children.  To me, our district is not just a place on the lake, but a place in my heart.

Sincerely,

David L. Behlow, Ph.D.

Atentamente,

David L. Behlow, Ph.D.
