Happenings-
We are the CEREAL church!
Cereal
For a long time, Grace
Church has been delivering canned goods and other food donations down to the St. Luke's/St. Paul's Food Pantry in Bridgeport. They urgently need donations of all kinds of groceries, but one of the items that they seem to run out of and need a lot of is cereal.

If all of us could remember to pick up a box of cereal (or two or more!)  each time we shop, we'll be able to make a wonderful and much needed contribution for the food pantry each week.  There is a collection basket at the main entrance of the church, and also one in lower Lewis Hall.

Dear friend,
Circular Dancers

"What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?"

-Psalm 8:4

The God of the Christian faith is a relational God.In fact, while the doctrine of the trinity traditionally describes the trinity as three persons, it is in the relationship between God the Source of All Being, the Incarnate Word and the Holy Spirit that God resides - more than in any of the three persons.  God is in the dance more than in the dancers.  Now, all world religions promote the idea of compassionate relationships and treating others with respect.  Christianity is unique in putting our relationship with God, each other and ourselves at the very core of the faith tradition.  Unlike other traditions, following the law is not at the center.  Submitting to God is not at the center.  Finding release from suffering is not at the center.  Loving God with all our heart, mind and soul - and loving our neighbors as ourselves - is what is at the center.  What does this say about what it means to practice the Christian faith?   How do you incarnate the holy trinity - the holy relationship - into your daily life and interactions?  Who does this Trinitarian faith say that we are?

Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. If you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together.
Peace,

Bishops' 5K Team Picture 5k Run
While no medals came back from the 5K this year, all of our runners and walkers did their personal best.  And not only that, Grace Church managed to raise $1525 for the Bishop's Fund for Children!  Thank you to all our walkers and runners - and to our cheerleaders - and, of course, to our generous pledgers.  Grace Church ran the good race all the way to the finish line! Memorial Day Parade Hospitality event
-this Monday, May 27th in the morning
The Men of Grace (or more popularly known as the "Dudes of Grace") are organizing some hospitality on the front lawn during the Memorial Day Parade Monday.  They're hoping to put up a tent and some chairs for shade, free hot dogs and lemonade (or, because of the early start time, coffee and doughnuts) - even a touch-a-truck!  Want to help?  Please speak to Steve.  Remember that the parade is coming through earlier than in previous years.  It takes off from Marissa's at 10am.  So make sure to get an earlier start and please join us for both parade viewing and for greeting our neighbors with the warmth of God's love Monday morning!

What's the Latest with Christ Church?

As most of you are aware, Elsa put her name in as a candidate in Christ Church's clergy search in order to initiate a conversation about our two churches collaborating in a new way that includes sharing a priest.  It's been a very slow process and not much happened until recently.  There is news to share, so during coffee hour Sunday, Elsa will share the latest developments.

Used Clothing Shed
Maryann clothes bin

Certainly you've noticed the used clothing shed in our back parking lot.  Please spread the word about this new outreach project -laminated posters and small flyers are available to post and share.  Clothes donated into the shed are picked up by St. Pauly's, who distributes them all to people in need across the globe through their connection with larger agencies.  All of the usable clothing that gets donated makes its way to people in need, saving landfill space.  Items accepted include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, linens, pillow cases, blankets, curtains and stuffed animals.  (Please do not put rags, fabric scraps, pillows, toys, household goods or electronics in the shed.)  Grace church receives 4 cents per pound on all items collected in exchange for hosting the shed. For further info on this project, there is information about St. Pauly's available in coffee hour, or click on this link: St. Pauly's.
