Happenings-
We are the CEREAL church!
Cereal
For a long time, Grace
Church has been delivering canned goods and other food donations down to the St. Luke's/St. Paul's Food Pantry in Bridgeport. They urgently need donations of all kinds of groceries, but one of the items that they seem to run out of and need a lot of is cereal.

If all of us could remember to pick up a box of cereal (or two or more!)  each time we shop, we'll be able to make a wonderful and much needed contribution for the food pantry each week.  There is a collection basket at the main entrance of the church, and also one in lower Lewis Hall.

Dear friend,
Joined Hands

"Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many."

-1 Corinthians 12:14

When it comes to the human body, a big toe or or a nose can not function on their own - they need to be attached to a body. That's Paul's message to the Corinthian congregation. He's reminding them that churches are not just a grouping of self sufficient individuals - we need each other in the same way that body parts need each other. In fact, we are one body with each other. On this special Sunday we celebrate 12 step recovery, and the people who have admitted that they need the help, support and love of others in community in order to be whole. Today they are leading the way for us all to recognize our deep need for God and for each other. The church has a lot to learn from AA, Al Anon, Alateen and other 12 step groups about our need to trust God and each other. Do you know anyone in recovery? What do you know about their 12 step spirituality? Are you in recovery yourself? How do you share that spirituality with others?

Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. If you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together.
Peace,

Diocesan Recovery Sunday
                               - this Sunday, January  27th

This Sunday, January 27th our diocese will Celebrate Recovery Sunday. Grace Church has been a pioneer in recovery ministry in this diocese and we are pleased to welcome the words of our deacon, Nancy Gage, who will share some of her own recovery journey with us. If you have friends in 12 step recovery or friends who have relatives in recovery, this would be a great Sunday to invite them to come to church and see how friendly, healing and supportive Grace Church is.  To read an article written by Elsa concerning Celebrate Recovery Sunday, click HERE

  • How do I bring what I hear and experience at Grace Church out into the world and into my life?
  • How do I share it with others?

Recovery Outreach Meeting

Elsa has invited people from our recovery groups to meet with her next Saturday morning, February 2nd at 9 AM in her study to explore what kind of spiritual support Grace Church might offer to people in recovery this winter and spring. A Bible Study? A book Group? A support group? If you're interested in taking part in this discussion, you are welcome.

Youth Ministry Now Workshop

Elsa will be attending a lunchtime workshop at Yale Divinity School with Roland Martinson of Luther Seminary. He will be talking about creating intergenerational practices at work. Professor Martinson is a very engaging speaker and good ideas and inspiration will be shared. This monthly colloquium is for both clergy and lay people. Let Elsa know if you'd like to come along on Tuesday, Feb 5 from 12-2. A free lunch is included if you register in advance.
