We are the CEREAL church!
| |
For a long time, Grace
Church has been delivering canned goods and other food donations down to the St. Luke's/St. Paul's Food Pantry in Bridgeport. They urgently need donations of all kinds of groceries, but one of the items that they seem to run out of and need a lot of is cereal.
If all of us could remember to pick up a box of cereal (or two or more!) each time we shop, we'll be able to make a wonderful and much needed contribution for the food pantry each week. There is a collection basket at the main entrance of the church, and also one in lower Lewis Hall.

Dear friend,
"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."
-1 Corinthians 12:7
Some of us have certain good qualities, others have specific skills. But no matter what our gifts are, they have all been granted to us from one God, and each gift is necessary for the good of us all. This is hard for our modern ears to hear. We're used to grabbing on to as many advantages as we possibly can to get ahead. We are a very competitive society, and the more gifts we can collect for ourselves the better! But Paul suggests that the only reason any of us have any gifts at all is for the common good. Your gifts are not given for just you alone, but are given to build up the whole. Whether you have humble gifts or flashy ones, they've been given to you to flow through you out to everyone. Are you aware of any specific gifts you've been given? How could your qualities or skills be used as gifts to others? Do you ever hoard your gifts for yourself or try to grab the gifts of others for yourself? How can you find ways to share your gifts more abundantly? Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. If you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together. |

Diocesan Recovery Sunday, January 27th
Next Sunday, January 27th our diocese will Celebrate Recovery Sunday. Grace Church has been a pioneer in recovery ministry in this diocese and we are pleased to welcome our deacon, Nancy Gage, as our preacher on this special occasion. If you have friends in 12 step recovery or friends who have relatives in recovery, this would be a great Sunday to invite them to come to church and see how friendly, healing and supportive Grace Church is. To read an article written by Elsa concerning Celebrate Recovery Sunday, click HERE.

Annual Meeting Scheduled for February 3, 2013
The annual meeting is coming up on Sunday, February 3rd. The service will take place downstairs that morning and will include lunch (details to follow). Those required to write a written report in advance of the meeting are:
- The officers of the parish (senior warden, junior warden, clerk and treasurer)
- The Rector
But anyone who is active in a particular ministry either within the parish - or out in the world - is also welcome to put in their two cents to create a diverse record of our current expressions of God's mission at Grace Church!
Please prepare by considering the following questions: - How do I bring what I hear and experience at Grace Church out into the world and into my life?
- How do I share it with others?
