Growing a Life Of Wholeness |
Dear friend of Grace Church,
"I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out." -Luke 19:40 There are just some things that are what they are. It doesn't matter if we name them, comment on them or even notice them. There was such a complete wholeness in Jesus' life that his presence created healing and transformation wherever he went. He didn't need his followers to sing his praises - the very nature of the world was doing that already. He was who he was. Palm Sunday gives us all the opportunity to think about the wholeness God has given each of us - about who God created us to be - about what our special place in the context of the whole is. What is simply true about you? How does your very being reflect your creator? What part do you play in the healing of this world? Do you celebrate who God made you - as the people did with palm branches on the road? Or do you condemn and try to suppress who God made you - as they did to Jesus in Jerusalem? We'll be dancing with life's big questions again this Sunday at Grace Church. Whether you come just for the morning, or if you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, Grace is a place where you can come to explore, come to connect and come to believe. The Sunday service is at 9:30. And there is also a Service of Healing and Wholeness this Saturday at 5:30. |

Yay! I Choose This!
Our last session of the Bible Study Series will take place today after choir rehearsal in Lower Lewis Hall. Both Elsa and Kelly will lead the discussion and all are welcome, whether or not they have attended the other sessions. Today's Bible story will be Ezekiel and the dry bones. Despite the dry, dry bones, get ready for some very juicy discussion.

Palms and Prayers
Elsa and Louise (from Christ Church) will be taking the church to the streets again this afternoon with the "Palms and Prayers" event. They'll stroll in downtown Trumbull near Starbucks and will walk from there to the rail trail and on toward Whitney Ave on the trail. They'll be handing out palms and offering prayers to anyone who would like one as they go along and will stop at each bench to teach people who are interested how to make palm crosses. At the conclusion of their journey, they'll end up back at the mall again for a frozen yogurt. Come join them for all or part of the journey. You can track their progress and location this afternoon on Twitter at: @TheGlowatGrace

Maundy Thursday
We'll commemorate the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday with a simple footwashing service and then an agape meal - a simple potluck supper - right here in the church under the Last Supper window. Eating together here in the church is a very special experience. Following the meal, we "strip the altar" together. All the decorations and linens and fixtures are removed and the altar is stripped bare in preparation for the solemn Good Friday service. Please bring a simple plate of vegetarian food to share with others.

Ecumenical Good Friday Service
The churches of Trumbull will gather on Friday at noon at the Trumbull Congregational Church for a communal Good Friday service. Elsa will be taking part in the service, along with many other of the town's clergy. All are welcome.
|
Good Friday Liturgy at Grace
Our Good Friday Liturgy takes place at 7 pm on Friday evening. This is a simple and powerful liturgy that ends with the church in darkness, with people leaving in silence. It's a dramatic and meaningful way to prepare for Easter.

The Great Vigil of Easter
Bishop Laura Ahrens, the three priests of Trumbull, our deacon, our seminarian, all our acolytes and our choir will make a very grand procession as we welcome the arrival of Easter at the great Vigil. Don't miss this wonderful and moving event at which at least two people will be baptized, and four will be received into the Episcopal Church by the bishop. We will all get the opportunity to reaffirm our baptism. A reception with desserts and coffee/tea will follow. Please invite your friends from Christ Church and Trinity Church to come along and sit with you! Rides will be available for those who'd rather not drive at night. We're hoping the whole church will be together and present for this very special night!

Easter Sunday
Our Sunday morning Easter service with festive Easter music will be followed by a special Easter potluck brunch. Please bring a special brunch item or pastry to share!

Inviting All Runners & Walkers!
May 19, 2012
For the past two years Grace Church has taken part in the Bishop's 5K for Kids in West Hartford. The first year, we had a team of three runners. Last year we had a team of 5 runners/walkers. This year, I hope we have even more! And what's more, the three Episcopal Churches of Trumbull are teaming up this year into one mega-team - the Spirit of Trumbull - in an effort to make an even bigger difference in the lives of at-risk kids in CT. The money we raise together will go to innovative preschool, after school, educational, recreational and camping programs. It'll be great to join together in outreach in this fun way and hopefully the Spirit of Trumbull can make a significant donation to the fund this year. For more information, click HERE
