Greetings Members,
Taking the time to reflect on all of the reasons to be thankful for in the community which we live, the businesses that allow us to serve our community, and the good fortune that we have with our families, friends, and business associates is a cornerstone of our thoughts during the month of November. Personally, I am thankful for the opportunity to work with the members of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and to be surrounded by folks who are so upbeat about the work that they do! Thank you for providing terrific businesses in our community and beyond that for the service you provide to make our community even better.
During this month, we also will see changes take place within our government as we go to the polls to elect new officials at all levels. Even though the ballot is long, I encourage each of you to exercise your right to vote for officers as well as significant propositions and other local initiatives that will impact our community, businesses and families. Veterans' Day also happens this month giving us the chance to thank the service men and women who have served our county which has allowed us to maintain the freedoms we enjoy. Several events in our community will salute veterans and I am hopeful that some of you will be able to attend those events. Please note that our regular Membership Luncheon meeting will be on November 9th at the Hellenic Center, and our Business-4- Breakfast will take place a week earlier than usual on November 17th at 7 a.m. at the AM Caf on 10th Street West. Join us for these wonderful networking and learning opportunities. Our annual Holiday Parade is just around the corner! Join us on Saturday, December 3rd at 10:00 am on Lancaster Blvd for the festivities. The theme for this year is "A Hollywood Christmas" and parade entries are being accepted daily; We will continue to take applications until November 18th. A great way to advertise your business is to advertise it in our Parade Program. Business card ads start at only $25! We will be taking ads and artwork until November 18th as well. Please contact the Chamber office at 948-4518 if you would like more information. Thank you to our Parade Committee Chairman, Luis Garibay, and to our Events Coordinator, Anna Zarley, for putting together this special day for our community. Please let us know how you can help make this parade a big success. Your Chamber needs you, so please volunteer. Our October Flea Market was a huge success! Keep an eye out for the May Flea Market information to be up on our website as we will be taking vendor applications and looking to line up more volunteers in the upcoming months. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help make the October event outstanding!! We hope to see you again this May. I am hopeful that each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving celebrating with your family and friends in whatever tradition works for you. It is a time to be thankful for all the many blessings we receive as well as sharing our blessings with others. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Sincerely, Regina Rossall, Chairwoman of the Board 2016-2017 |

Time Off to Vote Obligations
With the November 8 general election only one week away, employers should already have been displaying a poster describing voting leave requirements.
Employers must display the time off to vote poster at least 10 days before every statewide election.
If an employee does not have sufficient time outside of working hours to vote in a statewide election, the employee may take up to two hours of working time to vote without loss of pay. If the employee needs more than two hours to vote, he or she can take it - but only two hours is paid.
The time off must be taken at the beginning or end of the regular working shift, whichever gives the employee the most free time for voting and the least time off from working. The employer and the employee may mutually agree to a different part of the working shift when the time off can be taken. The employee must notify the employer at least two working days in advance to arrange a voting time.
