Lancaster Chamber of Commerce July Luncheon

Lancaster Choice Energy

Please join us for our monthly luncheon on July 8, where the City of Lancaster will be presenting the Lancaster Choice Energy Program.

There's a new electric company in town!  The City of Lancaster is proud to present Lancaster Choice Energy, the new "YOUtility."  Lancaster Choice Energy, or LCE, partners with Southern California Edison to provide electricity to the residents and businesses of Lancaster.  Locally controlled and operated, LCE provides cleaner energy at affordable rates, while also keeping more funds from Lancaster's energy bills right here in our local economy.  LCE began serving municipal accounts and select early enrollers on May 1, 2015, and will roll out to all accounts citywide in October 2015.  Join us to learn more about this innovative utility and how it can benefit your home or business.

The Lancaster Chamber Board of Directors and new Chairman of the Board, Josh Mann, look forward to seeing you there.

RSVPs are strongly suggested for this event.

LANCASTER, CA July 3, 2015- The Antelope Valley Fair is partnering with the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and is once again asking
businesses to decorate their business in honor of the Fair's 2015, 77th anniversary theme, "Barn Appétit!" for the annual Business Dress & Decorate Contest. Participating businesses report that decorating their offices, store windows and personnel is exciting and fun for staff and customers. The deadline for entering the contest is August 7th at 3 p.m.

The judging by A.V. Fair Community Queens will take place between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 18th and winners and a list of all entries will be announced on the opening day of Fair, August 21st on the homepage of avfair.com and at lancasterchamber.org.

Lancaster Choice Energy Brings Cleaner Energy and Lower Rates to Residents and Businesses Alike

Lancaster, CA. June 24, 2015 - The City of Lancaster's Lancaster Choice Energy (LCE) just launched this past May, but is already proving to be a cleaner, more cost-effective alternative to its only competitor, Southern California Edison. In May, LCE was made available to 'early adopters' during the first phase of its launch. LCE will be available to all other Lancaster residents and businesses in October of this year. At that time, the residents and businesses will be able to experience locally controlled, stable rates, and a reduced carbon footprint, while also benefitting from this new local revenue source.

LCE is the first municipally-operated community choice aggregator in the State of California and the first to operate in Southern California. As a community choice aggregator, LCE partners with the existing regional investor-owned utility (IOU), Southern California Edison (Edison), to provide an additional energy choice to Lancaster residents. Edison will continue to provide electric delivery services (transmission, distribution, power line maintenance, billing, etc.), while LCE purchases and provides the electricity.

Taking local control of the energy procurement process translates to benefits throughout the community. There are lower energy rates associated with this new energy option, the rates are stable, and the revenue generated through LCE stays within the community.

"Every dollar saved through LCE means another dollar kept within our local economy," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "The savings and environmental benefits are undeniable, and we are proud to give control to Lancaster residents by providing this new energy option."

LCE currently offers two product options: Clear Choice, which contains 35 percent renewable energy, and Smart Choice, which is 100 percent renewable. Clear Choice is the default product in which all customers will be automatically enrolled, unless they choose to "opt up" to Smart Choice. Smart Choice is offered at a small premium over the cost of Clear Choice, at a flat rate of $10 extra per month for residential accounts and 1.5 cents per kilowatt hour more for commercial accounts. LCE's charges for electric generation will simply appear as a line item on each customer's Edison bill.

"One of the most exciting aspects of LCE is the fact that, for the first time, residents can choose where their energy comes from," added Mayor Parris. "There has historically only been one choice for your energy, and the community choice aggregator model completely changes that. Through LCE, citizens not only get to choose their energy company, they get to choose their product -- they can enjoy increased renewable energy at a lower rate with Clear Choice, or they can further reduce their carbon footprint by opting up to Smart Choice. Either way, by participating in LCE, they are helping to build a greener future for our community."

LCE service will extend to all electric accounts citywide in October. Customers will receive four separate notices via mail informing them of their impending enrollment in LCE, while providing instructions on how to opt out and remain with Edison if they so choose. Those who wish to receive LCE service simply do nothing and LCE will become their default provider, making it easy for residents to experience lower rates and higher renewable energy content than their existing service.

Small Businesses Can Clean Up Through Spring Cleaning

Companyoffive

To stand out and inspire them to engage with you, you'll need to "spring clean" your marketing efforts. Ideally, you'll want to do this from the inside out by first analyzing your email and social media campaign results.

Let's start with email. In reviewing the last three to six months, take a closer look at which articles were most popular in terms of being clicked on, forwarded and shared on social media. While you're looking at your results, take the time to clean up your contacts list. Clear out the duplicates and bounced addresses and add the names from that stack of business cards you've been collecting.

From a social media perspective, take advantage of Facebook Insights to better understand the demographics of people on your page and their interactions. Similarly, Twitter Analytics measures engagement and gives you insight into the effectiveness of your tweets.

Along with analyzing how your customers respond and react, you'll also want their direct feedback by issuing a survey. Be brief yet specific to learn what works and what you can improve.

Lastly, look at what your customers

aren't  saying or doing. Which content and offers are they bypassing? Are they referring their friends to your business? Also, when it comes to their online engagement, what are they talking about in general and what specifically are they saying about your business?

Based on this insight, you're ready to spruce up your marketing campaigns through the following actions:

  • Refresh the look of your newsletter. Explore different templates and brainstorm new column topics, content ideas and images.
  • Update your online presence including background images, the description of your business, and making sure you have complete profiles online so you're more easily found.
  • Launch a personalized campaign targeting your most active customers. It should reflect your fresh insights as well as their particular interests. The more customized the content and offer is, the more likely they are to respond and share it with their friends.

When you take the time for spring cleaning, you'll spot trends that inspire new ideas and you'll be able to proactively respond to potential issues. This leads to more engagement and enables you to stand out among the competition.
