Wow what a drought we are experiencing this summer. And people say that climate change does not exist.  Wake up people.  The grass and flowers are really suffering out here, and I do my best to give everyone a drink as often as I can - we even reuse water to help them.  We of course are on a well and so have to be careful with the amount we use.

The farmers are really experiencing problems too and if this keeps up, we may have some pretty high costs for food next year.  So stock up what you can now.  Freeze some fresh veggies and things to help you through the winter.

My niece is getting married in Northern England and we are looking forward to joining many family members at the wedding.  It is a well deserved rest after the crazy year we have had so far.  For a while it looked like I might not be able to go, but everything worked out and I am going.

Many of the challenges of this year, in our lives are coming to an end and we are so grateful for that.  It has been quite an intense year and quite exhausting. I realize that many others are going through similar situations.  I just keep plugging through one day at a time and we are slowly getting there.

And yet, as I look around I realize that we are still very lucky and I try to be grateful every day for the good things in our lives.  Sometimes it is easy to forget that we have so much more than most of the world out there even in our challenges and struggles.

So my best advice this month is stay cool, help your plants and grass where you can.  Even the birds are thirsty so put some water out for them. Keep plugging through your challenges and know that better days are ahead.  One step at a time gets it done.

Be thankful for what you have.  We recently had a family destroyed by tragedy in our neighbourhood.  A mother and 6 year old killed in a traffic accident, the other 7 year old in critical condition.  The poor father.  so be thankful even when facing challenges.

Look after yourself, give yourself what you need and stay calm, cool, and peaceful.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL PROUD

As I was searching for a theme for this article, I noticed that the line of a song kept playing over and over in my head.  At Shout Sister we are learning a new song called "Proud" and the line that was playing over and over again in my head was "what have you done today to make you feel Proud".  And I realized that this was the message I was to convey to you guys this month.

There is a lot of strife, anger, fear, bad mouthing, killing and many other negative things going on the world right now.  I realize that it is a cleanse and none of us are immune to it.  We are all going through the cleanse right now and our Shadow Selves are coming up and giving us issues to work on.

But I also realize that there is a lot of good going on in the world too.  And I think it is up to each and every one of us to do things that make us feel good and make us feel proud of ourselves everyday.   This is a shift in the energy that needs to happen one person at a time. Let me give you some examples.

It might be completing a project that you have been working on for a long time and you feel proud that you have pushed through it.  It might be because one of your kids or grandkids has made a great accomplishment and you can broadcast it to the world.  I am often horrified by what is posted on Facebook.  You will notice that anything I post is uplifting, funny or spiritually relevant to personal growth.  And I am very proud of that.  It might be that you can give to someone else, something they really need or want and you have and do not have a use for anymore.  Give it don't sell it.  It might be that you completed a course online or in person and you have given your all.

Other things might be finally cleaning out that basement or office, or freezer.  It might be just going to work and doing your best for a whole day without complaint.  It might be helping someone else by donating your money or your time.  There are so many things to feel proud of and most of them involve helping someone else or making a positive impact on the world in some way.

I can honestly say I have done several things this month that make me feel proud.  And here they are:

  • We donated money to the family in the Battersea tragedy where a mother and son were killed.
  • We went to a charity concert to support native children in James Bay.
  • I took soup and zucchini bread to my sister in law who broke her foot.
  • I gave away a set of tapes that I know would be useful to someone else and I no longer needed.
  • I gave money to my son to help him accomplish something.
  • I gave away 3 bags of organic lettuce that was more than we could eat.
  • I completed an online course and passed with 99%
  • I took my grandson to the dentist and paid the bill.
  • I gave two dog crates we no longer need to the humane society.
  • I put a dish of water out for the birds who are also thirsty in this drought.
  • I faithfully try to water the poor plants who are suffering with lack of water.

And I could go on.  As I look back, they are not big things, but lots of little things add up to a big thing.   And I feel proud of who I am and what I do.  Now what have you done or what are you going to do this month to make yourself proud.  What if each of us did one thing each day that we feel proud of that helps out someone else or ourselves, lifts our spirits, and makes us feel Proud of ourselves in some way.  I challenge you to fine one thing a day this month to do this.

DESIDERATA by Robert L. Bell

Saw this the other day and thought I would share with you guys.  It  hit home for me and perhaps it will for you as well.  Something we should read often.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.  As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.  Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.  Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.  If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.  Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.  But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself.  Especially do not feign affection.  Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.  Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.  Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.  But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.  Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.  Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the Universe, no less than the tress and the stars; you  have a right to be here.  And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive God to be. And whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.  With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.
