A Personal Message
photo of Judy

It is so lovely to see the sun and the little wildflowers peeking their heads out.  It is still so cold though and that snow and ice storm was quite a shock.

As I was walking Rudy the other day, the daffodils, trilliums and bloodroot are all in bloom.  I do so love the flowers amidst the slowly greening grasses.  There they are in all their splendour.

For those of you who know Rudy, he is doing much better - we are trying a new pain killer and he is like a different dog now.  He can play and run again.

I've been taking another course at the Shaw academy - a nutrition course this time and I have learned a lot.   What a great organization.  I purchase these courses on Groupon for $5.00 American and they are so amazing - so packed with information.  Check them out - well worth the money and all done online.  I have enjoyed these courses so much that I have just become a lifelong member.

I'm back to teaching Qi Gong again - we have all missed that over the winter and classes begin the first week of May.

I always think of Spring as a new beginning - the trees are budding, the flowers are returning, gardens get planted and the green returns.  I love it.  Although life is busy, I take those few minutes with Rudy every day to enjoy the return of the sun and the green.  It soothes my soul.

Think about what soothes your soul and take a few minutes a day to enjoy whatever that is.  You deserve it and if you don't take the time for it, it doesn't happen.  We need to remember to give at least one little thing to ourselves every day.  Don't wait for someone else to give you what you need, give it to yourself.

LITTLE STEPS CAN LEAD TO TRANSFORMATION

It has been quite a month for we Wards, swamped with chores in Toronto for Brian's father.  There are visits, getting the house ready to sell, selling the house, and clearing out the house and it is all quite exhausting, as you can imagine.

As well, we have all the regular stuff at home to deal with too.  But we are just taking it one day at a time.  Each little step we take leads us closer to completion.  It is actually happening and we can see light at the end of many of the tunnels.

It brings to mind and I thought I would share with you guys how when a task seems daunting and that task may be anything, small steps get it done.  It could be clearing clutter, renovations, completing education, learning something new or just demands of personal life in general as well as working, children, parents and activities.  We all have our burdens to carry, and sometimes they seem overwhelming.

I am taking an online nutrition course again and I've learned a lot and one of the things they really stress is that when you want to lose weight (and I do), do it a little bit at a time and you will see transformation.  If you want to eat healthier, change your diet a little bit at a time.  It could be getting out of debt - that may not happen overnight, but with constant effort, it can happen.     Keep plugging at it  a little at a time, and soon it will lessen.  I have been teaching students this for years, and now I get to experience it myself too.

As we get older (at least I feel this way), I don't want all that stress and chaos anymore.  And so we are downsizing in so many ways and piece by piece our lives are beginning to transform into something simpler.  I think it is a process and for this year, it is one step at a time.  We know that it will come to an end and that many of our challenges are coming to completion.

I am looking forward to a complete transformation of my life over the next year.  But it is a journey and we must do it all slowly and methodically.  Step by step leads to transformation. And those steps don't have to be huge just consistent.

I am sure many of you feel the same way, overwhelmed with work, family, duties, responsibilities, debts and changes occurring.  I hope that you can take from this article the fact that you can just keep plodding along and transformation will occur at the end of the tunnel.  It doesn't seem so daunting when you take just one little step at a time.   We can all transform our lives if we just keep working toward it.  We humans don't like change and yet we will accept small changes, just not large ones.  They are too scary for us.

So keep plodding along, knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel and transformation waits for you.  It's your choice, but do know that you too can break the task down into manageable bits.

WHAT THE ANIMALS CAN TEACH US.

As most of you know I am an avid lover of animals and I love to watch them and to learn from them.  It occurred to me the other day how very much the animals have to teach us about how we should live life.

Think about a dog.  They are loyal, and love us unconditionally. They never get mad at us, and when they are in trouble they quickly ask for forgiveness and remind us how much they love us.  They wait patiently for us to come home and always greet us with joy. They love to play and to be cuddled.    They love to get outside and go for walks in nature and stop to sniff and enjoy nature.  We humans could learn a lot about how to live life and how to treat each other from watching dogs.

Think about a cat.  They are very independent.  They can be loving but they also need their alone time.  So do we humans need our alone time to regroup and just be by ourselves once in a while.  This is when our best work is done.  And so we can learn by watching our cats and following their lead and taking the time we need for ourselves.

Think about a deer.  I was watching one the other day.  They are so gentle.  There is no menace or fight there.  If confronted they just run away.  They don't want to fight just to be left alone to live their lives.  Perhaps we could learn from them as well.  Just to be and to let others be, and don't get involved in confrontation.

Think about a squirrel.  When they are trying to get at our bird feeders, they never give up.  If one tactic doesn't work, they try another and another until they get what they want.  They are very tenacious and never give up.  We could learn from them as well to keep trying for our goals and to never give up and if one tactic doesn't work try another one.

Think about Canada Geese.  These I find so amazing.  They now regroup and travel in families to help protect their young from predators.  Perhaps we humans could learn by working together more and helping each other rather than fighting each other.

I don't think animals are an accident and that they are truly here to teach us something if we take the time to watch, listen and pay attention.  Try it out and see what the animals have to teach you this month.
