A Personal Message
photo of Judy

Well Spring has arrived, at least I hope.  We have had some beautiful and some rainy weather this month.

It has been quite a month in the Ward household with many trips to Toronto for Brian's father and getting his house ready to sell.  It's an interesting process to sell a house in Toronto as opposed to here.

For those of you who know Rudy, he is doing much better - in fact better since I took him off all the medication.  Isn't that interesting.  Sometimes medication causes as many problems as it solves.

We are redoing the carpet in the basement so the house is completely pulled apart but that happens next week so back to teaching soon.

I am reminded that life is short and I saw a sign that really stirred me.  It said don't count the days, make the days count.

And so my message to you this month is don't wait to do the things you love. Tomorrow may never come and we can wait forever to make our life fulfilling and filled with joy.  Do one of the things that you love or want to do but never got around to, or just that you have not done for a while this month.

Treat yourself, make the time and love what you do.  Take the time to give yourself something you love even if you have to give up something you don't love.  That shouldn't be too difficult.

Welcome in the green of spring which I notice is beginning.  New life begins now - think of it as a chance for a new beginning for you as well.

 KINDNESS CAN MAKE YOU HAPPY

A while ago one of my students and friends sent this email to me and it surfaced again yesterday and seems fitting for my experiences, and the article this month.

"The positive effect of kindness on the immune system and on the increased production of serotonin in the brain has been proven in research studies.  Serotonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that makes us feel more comfortable, peaceful and even blissful.  In fact the role of most anti-depressants is to stimulate the production of serotonin chemically, helping to ease depression.  Research has shown that a simple act of kindness directed toward another improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness and the person extending the kindness.  Even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results.  Imagine this!  Kindness extended, received or observed beneficially impacts the physical health and feelings of everyone involved!"  by Wayne Dyer

Sounds crazy but this month I experienced it personally.  So let me tell you about it.  Georgette Fry is in the process of taking our choir music and donated unused musical instruments to a native reserve on James Bay to help the children there who basically have nothing.  She, and I, believe that music heals.   I sent out an email through Brian to the Battersea group which got picked up by Al Rankin and sent out to his group and the response has been amazing.  I have become the point person for her.  Last week I went to LCVI to meet Alain McCann a teacher there who donated a huge box of learn how to play different instruments, videos and cds as well as new drumsticks.  Then I met Georgette and picked up 3 violins and took them to Renaissance music, told them the story and they tuned, restrung, and fixed small things all for nothing.  Joe Mills Instrument Lending Institute donated many instruments as well.

And Christine Jamieson a teacher at Frontenac High School enlisted other teachers and students to collect boxes of books to fill the library.   I couldn't believe the generosity and kindness of all these people.  There have been donations of books and musical instruments and accessories from private people as well as money donations. With all the horrible things going on right now in the world, it restored my faith in human beings.  There are good people out there.

I came home those days feeling so happy to have been a part of doing something kind and experiencing something kind from so many people.  It is really true that sending out kindness or even observing kindness does lift your vibration and make you feel good. It's such a worthy cause to help these native children who have nothing at all and no creative activities.

If you would like to help too, call me at 613-353-7803.  What we really need now is cash donations, for incidentals, cables, etc, to rent the truck and for gas to drive up there.  I can pick up donations in Kingston, or you can mail donations to me.  Georgette is going the first week of May to the reserve.

And if this charity program doesn't appeal to you there are so many needy people out there.  Find a program that does appeal and donate your time or some money to help.  You will do yourself a favour by increasing your own serotonin as well as helping someone in need.  Make a difference in the world, one little step at a time.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

I was reading a book recently and one of the things it said, felt like a rule to live by.  That is "whatever is happening - good or what we call bad" this too shall pass."

It reminded me of the Ebb and Flow rule I teach in Reiki.  This says that at times life is in flow and everything seems to fall into place and go our way.  At other times, life seems a challenge and everything is a struggle and this is the Ebb.

It's easy to be happy and live in the flow.  But we must remember and enjoy these times as these too shall pass and we will re-enter the ebb state of being.

In the ebb state of being or the challenges of life, we must remember that these too shall pass and we will return to flow again, provided that we don't get stuck in them.   During the challenging times of our lives, and these are necessary in the scheme of life, because this is when we really learn and grow, it is important to focus on what is good in our lives and to be grateful for what we have.  And we have a lot, living in this beautiful, safe and abundant country.  Sometimes we forget that.

It is also good to take one day at a time in the challenging times and keep moving forward.  I have found that things get done, and challenges get handled if you focus on just this one day and what needs to happen in this day.  Tomorrow is another day and you can worry about that tomorrow. It really works for those of us that are in the ebb right now.

So remember when life feels like it is dragging you down... whatever it is, this too shall pass.  And when life feels great, enjoy it while it lasts ... this too shall pass.  But it will always come back again. It really helps relieve the stress if you focus on the good in your life, be grateful for your blessings, and keep in mind that - This too shall pass!  Try this out this month and see what happens to your energy.
