We will be having a little excitement here at Schalamar as professional long hitters from all over the world will be coming to compete for prizes in excess of $25,000!  Spectator tickets are FREE to Schalamar Creek residents, so be sure to get yours before they are gone. It works like this. You get a telephone call from someone purporting to be with the security department of the credit card company. He (or it may be a she) will tell you his name and badge number (both phony) and say he is checking out a suspicious charge made against your card.  

He will ask if you actually purchased a certain item (it will be an amount just under $500). When you respond "No," that person will say that in order to remove the charge from your account, you will need to verify that you are the cardholder, that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you actually have the credit card in your possession.  

To verify this, you will be asked for the 3-digit number on the back of your credit card. That is all the scammer needs for his nefarious purposes. NEVER GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER - OR ANY PART OF IT - in response to one of these calls. No legitimate credit card company will ever contact you by telephone to ask for this information.

The media has recently reported that confusion exists regarding the law on making turns on a red-arrow light. According to the Polk County Sheriffs Office, the law in Florida is as follows:

When making a turn to the LEFT: come to a full stop and do not proceed until the arrow turns green. It is never legal to make a left turn on a red-arrow light.

Blinking Yellow Light. Drivers need to treat this as a "Yield to Oncoming Traffic," slowing down to a stop if necessary, and then proceeding with caution.
