Over fifty producers and their families came to the annual "Back to TCtv Barbeque" last month and got a chance to mix with other guests. Thanks to all who attended and brought side dishes. A great time was had by all and we hope to see everyone at not only next year's event, but throughout the year

We recently installed some new LED lighting panels in the studio. They are light weight and easy to adjust, so come check them out in our studio.

The next field and post-production workshop is scheduled to start September 13.  If you are not field certified, here's your chance.  Don't miss out. To all of our Users, we will also offer our pre-production planning workshop on September 28, please sign up and get started on your way to becoming a producer!.

MEET THE PRODUCER

Pablo Reyes is a certified field, studio and audio production producer at TCtv.

"There is a model airplane club that meets at a field in San Pedro, and you can fly your planes there. So the video that I am working on, I am interviewing some of the members. They have an event called 'Combat Fly' where they try to hit each other with their planes. And I captured some B-roll of two planes colliding, which was exciting."

Pablo's next studio shoot will also have a model airplane theme. "I want to bring in some of the members of the club and let them talk about flying their planes. For audio production, I want to do 'cue music' that would go with whatever video I am working on."

Pablo is interested in working with other producers, saying, "Whatever people need, I would like to help out, camera, audio or the Tricaster. The great thing about TCtv is all of the equipment that is available to you, just need to become a producer. It's a great thing."

Lighting Your Videos

Lighting often takes a backseat to camera and audio equipment for the beginning filmmaker. On a field shoot, you might think a light kit is just another box of gear to lug around and most likely you won't be using it anyway. In the studio it is not uncommon to see producers turning on every single light hanging from the grid and then just reusing the last lighting setup from the previous shoot. Maybe you are worried about all the other responsibilities with video production and adding the task of lighting is too much. This is understandable but not the best approach.

Once you have had a few shoots under your belt, consider improving the lighting in your videos as the next challenge. We also encourage you to work on other people's shoots as lighting director or gaffer. More...
Why Do Multiple Takes?

When filming your program, it is natural to want to get everything done quickly, especially when conditions are tough like bad weather. And while it is a good habit to keep productions running on schedule, it doesn't mean you should sacrifice quality for speed.

There are advantages in doing multiple takes, which is filming the same shot or sequence multiple times. Now this doesn't mean you need to film every scene 10 times, but you might want to plan for key shots to have additional takes. More...
Using Flags With Your Lighting

Once you have begun using lights for your productions, you will hopefully begin to notice the quality of your videos has improved. However, there may be times when you will want to fine tune your lights. Diffusion lighting elements are easily available with our kits and in the studio; but it creates light over a large area that is sometimes hard to control. Simply dimming the overall light won't solve problems with shadows, flaring, and glares. Perhaps you are lighting an interview, and in addition to the subject, your lights are spilling onto the white wall in the background creating a hot spot. Or maybe you are lighting a subject with a green screen behind them and you want to keep your key and fill lights from spilling onto the green screen creating an imbalance for your digital image during editing.
