Poke is popping up more and more as the raw fish dish that gained a following
in Hawaii is making its mark on the mainland. The newest entry into the local poke scene is Poke Bar in Torrance in the Village Del Amo shopping center. Diners can choose from a variety of bases, including rice and salad, then add the proteins of their choice. Selections include tuna, salmon, albacore, shrimp, octopus, scallopS and tofu. Then it gets mixed with sauces and a selection of toppings to create their perfect personal poke. Cool Combinations...

On June 3, 2016, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Governing Board approved the establishment of a Special Revenue Fund to receive monies pursuant to a settlement agreement with ExxonMobil. SCAQMD will release a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit project(s) amounting to approximately $2.77 million dollars to be implemented in Torrance. The community meeting this Wednesday is a space for residents and other interested parties to give ideas for potential projects that would provide public health and quality of life improvements. The Torrance Theatre Company presents another weekend of performances of "The Drowsy Chaperone." In this "show within a show," The Man in Chair sits down to listen to a recording of his favorite Broadway musical, a parody of 1920s musical comedy. As he listens, the characters magically appear in his dingy apartment, bringing the show to life. There are six performances of "The Drowsy Chaperone" weekends through Aug. 27. Join Western Museum of Flight members for a talk from Col. Jim Shelton, the latest speaker in the Celebrity Lecture Series. Col. Shelton flew strategic
reconnaissance Black Ops missions in the SR-71 Blackbird, a plane that flew at 90,000 feet and required an oxygen mask and a pressurized suit. The SR-71 Blackbird was only flown by a handful of elite pilots. The plane was so fast that people would say, "if you heard the Blackbird, it is already gone." The lecture is free for WMoF members and $5 for non-members. After the lecture there will be an Easy Build Model Session from noon to 2 p.m. to build stealth model planes similar to the SR-71. Models you build are yours to keep for $14 per model plane.
