nitrogen, recently opened up in the Torrance Crossroads shopping center. The rapid freezing process is said to make for frozen treats that are very smooth and creamy. 55TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SURF FESTIVAL
THURSDAY, AUGUST 4 - SUNDAY, AUGUST 7
VARIOUS LOCATIONS 
Every year, the four South Bay beach cities team up with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Department of Beaches and Harbors to put on the International Surf Festival. This year, the City of Torrance is the host! The festival spans four days and includes 18 different competitive events for participants of all ages. The three main events are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim and the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament. There is also a surfing contest, bodysurfing contest, beach run, paddleboard races and even a sandcastle building contest. Attending the festival to cheer on participants is free. The Torrance Community Services Department presents another great Concert in the Park. Bring snacks and a blanket, and come out to Columbia Park to enjoy a free concert by 5MileRadius. The Community Services Department invites Torrance middle-schoolers to beat the heat at another summer Co-Rec Swim Night. Swim in the Plunge's outdoor pool and then enjoy a yummy barbecue dinner. Swimsuits are required and no T-shirts, shorts or street clothes are allowed in the pool. Admission, including pool play and dinner, is $4 for Co-Rec members and $6 for guests.
