MEET THE PRODUCER

Brian Clune has been a Certified Field & Post-Production and Studio Producer for several years.

"Typically for field shoots, I have been doing shows on investigating ghosts, filming in low light situations and looking for paranormal activity. Hopefully in editing I can make an interesting show for the audience. I'm currently working on a project that is completely different. It's comedic. I am going around malls and asking people political questions and getting 'Man on the Street' type interviews."

Brian is looking forward to his next studio shoot, as it will be his first narrative production. "I'm excited because it's a type of shoot I've never tried before. I'm writing a script, and it's basically a conversation between two ghost hunters and two spirits, and the ghost hunters are idiots. I plan on casting actors for this, and I might use green screen."

He is interested in working with other producers. "I feel my strength is camera and working behind the scenes," he says. "One of my favorite shoots at TCtv wasn't even one that I produced. It was a music show in the studio for another producer and I was operating the camera, and I just found myself getting into the band and enjoying the music. So I'll help out wherever I'm needed."

3 Tips in Video Editing

After a successful field shoot, post-production begins and the editing room is where you put together your show. Although it might seem very overwhelming at times, here are a few tips that can help.

Tip 1: Don't make a cut without a reason.

The main reason to cut is to improve the scene. Edits are used to advance the story or its characters. Some scenes require no editing at all if the shot composition and camera movement are strong enough to support the intent of the scene. Other scenes require constant cuts in order to advance the story. More...
Digital Audio Recorder

On field shoots, recording audio can sometimes be a challenge because of distance between the subject matter and the recording device. For example, you are recording a live play and filming from the balcony would give you the best camera angles, but your microphone would be too far away to capture the audio. Or you are recording a live music performance, but the audio board where you are getting your sound feed is a long distance from your ideal camera position. In both of these cases, it would be difficult, if not impossible to run an audio cable from your audio source to the camera, so most producers end up compromising. Either they move the camera from its ideal location to a place closer to the audio source, or they sacrifice audio quality for better camera angles. More...
Setting Up Production for Post

The pre-production phase of your project is the basis of your production. It is at this point you decide on the essential parts that make up the whole such as: locations, shoot date and time, cast, crew, equipment, etc. It is almost always advised to put in some work when it comes to pre-production planning to insure a smooth day when its time to record your program.

Often overlooked in the pre-production phase is planning not only for the production phase (the days you actually film your program), but also planning out what will happen during the shoot to be prepared for post-production. There is a saying: "We'll fix it in post." This is something you will never have to say if you fully plan out your show. More...
