The Torrance Community Services Department and the Torrance Homeowners Associations are excited to sponsor this summer's Movies in the Park series. This Saturday there will be a free screening of "Big Hero 6" at Paradise Park. This family friendly movie begins at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). SAVE THE DATE: 55TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SURF FESTIVAL
THURSDAY, AUGUST 4 - SUNDAY, AUGUST 7
Every year, the four South Bay beach cities team up with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Department of Beaches and Harbors to put on the International Surf Festival. This year, the City of Torrance is the host! The festival spans four days and includes 18 different competitive events for participants of all ages. The three main events are the Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim and the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament. There is also a surfing contest, bodysurfing contest, beach run, paddleboard races and even a sandcastle building contest. You can still Register to Compete... Looking for activities to keep the kids busy over the summer? The Torrance Public Library's 2016 Summer Reading Program is in full swing. Infants through elementary school students earn prizes for reading 20 minutes a day to total 8 hours of reading by the end of the summer. The libraries also host free weekday performances and activities including magic shows, puppet shows, crafts, story-times, and so much more. Read for the Win... 
 
The Torrance Community Services Department offers the Summer Parks Program for more free fun. Stop by one of the 12 participating parks between noon and 4 p.m. on any weekday until Aug. 26 for a variety of supervised activities like arts and crafts, board games and sports.
