ROCKS AROUND THE BLOCK IN CELEBRATION OF 
THE ALL-AMERICA CITY AWARD

Get excited about the Torrance Historical Society's 12th annual Rock Around the Block celebration! This 1950s-style event celebrates Torrance's All-America City Award, one of America's original and most prestigious community recognition awards. The City received this award for "growth without strain" in 1956. This free event will be held in front of the Torrance Historical Society & Museum. You'll have a chance to check out vintage cars on display, bop to 50s music, enjoy burgers and milkshakes from the In-N-Out burger wagon, and view Torrance Historical Society's huge collection of high school yearbooks. Join Western Museum of Flight members for the latest event in the museum's celebrity lecture series. Hear from Capt. Tom Morgenfeld (ret.), who worked on a classified project to evaluate Soviet performance characteristics and flew Soviet captured aircraft. Capt. Morgenfeld flew 90 missions for the Navy and went on to be a test pilot, eventually becoming Chief Test Pilot for the Skunk Works, and then Director of Flight Operations. After his talk, Capt. Morgenfeld will autograph model airplanes. The event is free for WMoF members and costs $5 for non-members. Fly On By...

Friday, July 15 is the last day that Stephen West's painting exhibit, "A Ten Year Reflection on the Marsh," will be on display at the Nature Center. A new photography exhibit by Paul Blieden opens this Tuesday.
