Saturday, May 21: Torrance is starting a new Armed Forces Day tradition with a Torrance Armed Forces Day 5K Run/Walk in tribute to Louis Zamperini. It's not too late to register! Clifton Truman Daniel, grandson of President Harry Truman, will give a peace lecture inspired by a Sadako Sasaki, a little girl who was exposed to high levels of radiation from the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Sadako believed that her wish to be healthy again would be granted if she folded 1,000 "orizuru," origami paper cranes. Since then, paper cranes have been widely recognized as symbols of peace.
