Torrance honors the men and women  
of our nation's military with the three-day
57th Annual Armed Forces Day celebration!
 
Saturday, May 21: Torrance is starting a new Armed Forces Day tradition with a Torrance Armed Forces Day 5K Run/Walk in tribute to Louis Zamperini. It's not too late to register! Entry is $40 and includes an event T-shirt. Online registration is closed, but you can still find out how to register in person. Run for Fun... 
 
During the Armed Forces Day Parade, different aircraft fly overhead to salute the military. Stop by the Western Museum of Flight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to take a look at the planes before they fly. Meet their pilots and watch the aircraft take off for the parade. Attend the Ramp Review...

The 57th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade begins at 1:30 p.m. at Crenshaw Boulevard, heading west along Torrance Boulevard ending at Madrona Avenue. This is the longest-running parade of its kind in the nation. This year's honored branch is the U.S. Army. Enjoy the Parade... 

Friday, May 20 - Sunday, May 22: Military exhibits including aircraft, vehicles and support equipment will be on display all weekend at the Del Amo Fashion Center parking lot, just east of the outdoor Lifestyle Wing. Hours Vary by Day... 

Traffic impacts: There are events all three days of the weekend, but this year, with Saturday's 5K Run/Walk in the morning and the parade in the afternoon, road closures and traffic impacts in the area of the parade route will be in affect most of the day. TORRANCE HISTORICAL SOCIETY WALKING TOUR

This docent-led tour of downtown Torrance lasts approximately 90 minutes. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The tour covers about eight blocks. The tour is free, but donations are appreciated. WORLD PEACE LECTURE: WINGS OF PEACE

Clifton Truman Daniel, grandson of President Harry Truman, will give a peace lecture inspired by a Sadako Sasaki, a little girl who was exposed to high levels of radiation from the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Sadako believed that her wish to be healthy again would be granted if she folded 1,000 "orizuru," origami paper cranes. Since then, paper cranes have been widely recognized as symbols of peace. Tickets are $60 and include admission to the film "Orizuru 2015" at the Laemmle Royal Theatre in West Los Angeles later in the week. Talk About Peace...
