MEET THE PRODUCER

Deanna Sorensen is a certified producer in field and studio production. She has been creating shows at TCtv for two years.

Deanna's interests are in producing shows consisting of live bands and interviews with the artists. She also enjoys producing her show "Nature and Music," which shows visual landscapes with relaxing meditation music. She has a new idea in development: a children's show with puppets geared towards pre-school aged children.

Deanna is really interested in working with other producers. "I get to learn from other producers," she says, "and it feels good to have that kinship and help each other out." She is very open to having other producers assist on her shoot and says, "Many hands make light work, plus we get to bounce ideas and techniques off each other."

While Deanna's favorite position is director, she also would like to be the extra hand that they need to get the job done.

"I'd also like to say that I feel we don't thank the staff enough for what they do for us. We could, show our gratitude more a little more frequently. They go over and beyond when we need them. And we appreciate them."
Congratulations to the April Field and Post Production Production Workshop Graduates. We look forward to seeing the shows these producers will create!

Using The Telepromper

It is a normal issue for talent to forget lines. This is especially true when your talent has not had enough time to learn and memorize the script. To help with this challenge, people have had to use cue cards to assist their talent. This technique is still used today, but it can cause talent to look away or shift their focus from the camera, which can break their performance. This is where the Teleprompter comes into play.

Capturing Audio with a Boom Mic

On a shoot, the soundman can be the least-appreciated staff member, but in reality he is the most important member of the production crew. Very few are willing to watch a silent movie anymore, and even with silent movies there was usually a piano or organ playing. Let's face it, even though there might be 20 people on your video team and one lonely audio guy, his/her job matters.

One of the common tools an audio specialist would have in their rig is the boom mic system. The system consists a boom microphone (or shotgun mic), a boom pole, a zeppelin (cool name for a wind blocking device that looks kind of like the Goodyear blimp, hence its name) and a microphone cable. Read More...
Staffing Your Crew

As a producer, you will need to staff the crew for your show. You need to determine what roles you are interested in filling, and who you want for them. When looking for your essential crew members, you simply need to find somebody who is willing to learn the responsibilities of the role. This includes certified crew, as well as friends and family who may want to join you.

When determining who to assign to what position, ask volunteers what they are interested in, and what they are comfortable in doing. Do not pressure anyone to do something that they are not comfortable with doing. It is also very important to communicate your vision to crew so that they know what is expected from them. PRODUCER GET-TOGETHER
The Cable Television Advisory Board (CTAB) meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. The Board meetings are open to the public, so consider yourself "invited." Meetings are held in the TCtv Multi-Purpose room. The next scheduled meeting is May 11.

Join the CTAB Producer Get-Togethers, The next Get-Together is: Friday May 6 at 7p.m.

CTAB would like to invite you to an evening discussing "Late Night Television & Video over IP Advanced Technologies in Post Production" with Tony Romero. Romero is a 3 time Emmy-nominated Supervising Producer for Jimmy Kimmel Live as well as a member of the DGA, Producers Guild of America, AFTRA and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

At Jimmy Kimmel Live, Tony Romero oversees all post production aspects of the show as well as overseeing graphic production, logos, branding and screen imagery. He supervises the nightly edit and show delivery and is responsible for the look and feel of the nightly show. He also directed and produced the show open in conjunction with Industrial Light and Magic and produces Kimmel's Cisco Wall of America Project.

A Torrance resident, Tony began his career working in Sony's NY Post Production facility, where he later was offered a job in Post for Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  Looking to take his talents to the West Coast, Tony took on the post of Post Supervisor for Crank Yankers and then The Man Show with Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla.  As the technology changed, Tony was able to parlay his experience in live programming with new innovative post technologies to become an invaluable member of Jimmy Kimmel's team. With the announcement of Jimmy's late night show, Tony was the natural choice to be made department head of Post Production and eventually Supervising Producer, a role which he has held for the last 13 years.

We invite you to join Tony Romero at our May 6th Producer Get Together as he shares to share his experience and expertise in the ever changing post world.
