The City of Torrance, in an effort to help the community stay informed, has a webpage to list information regarding the ExxonMobil Torrance refinery. The page was recently updated to add a Frequently Asked Questions section pertaining to the restart of the refinery. It also includes information about the Feb. 18, 2015 incident at the refinery, as well as the public hearings held Jan. 13, 2016 and April 2, 2016, plus informational handouts and other links. APPLY TO THE YOUTH VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM
Torrance high schoolers are invited to apply to participate in the Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program. This summer program, sponsored by the Recreation Services Division, is designed to provide the participants with job training opportunities and 150 volunteer hours in various programs in the Community Services Department. Participants will be accepted into the program on a first come, first served basis depending on their summer availability. As part of the 2016 Armed Forces Day Celebrations in the City of Torrance, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce will host a 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, May 21. Participants are encouraged to register before May 1 for a $5 discount. This fun run is sure to be a highlight among the many exciting activities during the three days of Armed Forces Day events in Torrance.
