The City of Torrance Office of Economic Development is excited to host the 9th Annual Torrance Advantage Awards. Award recipients are recognized in four categories for their economic development strategies in 2015. In addition to a prestigious trophy, recipients receive $200 to help with operating expenses, a signed letter of recognition from the Mayor of Torrance, and certificates of commendation from regional elected officials. Torrance Theatre Company's latest production is "The 39 Steps," a fast-paced, Monty Python style, mystery melodrama adapted from an Alfred Hitchcock film. In the play, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who tells him she's a spy. After he takes her home, she is murdered and an organization called the 39 Steps hunts him down. The play features more than 150 zany characters played by just four actors, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and even more excitement. The Henderson Branch Library is named after Isabel Henderson, the first Torrance Librarian. The first public library in Torrance was established in 1913 in the parlor of Mrs. Henderson's home. Her collection had 300 books donated by her cousin, Jared Sydney Torrance, the City's founder. Celebrate Women's History Month with the Torrance Historical Society by remembering Isabel Henderson's contribution to our City. Torrance native and professional genealogist Connie Moretti will lead the presentation.
