FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Once again TCtv is in the midst of a big change. We are in the process of a complete upgrade and overhaul of our post-production suites to full high definition (HD) compatibility. The new suites will feature the complete Adobe Creative Cloud suite for video editing and AVID Pro Tools 12 for audio recording and editing. We also will be equipped with Blu-ray mastering to ensure that your project can be completed in the highest quality. For more information, read the new equipment article.

The new Audio Recording and Music Production workshop has really turned out to be a lot of fun. The main focus is training producers, who may not play an instrument or have a musical background, but want to express their ideas through music. It really works, and anyone can do it. So don't be shy, when the next workshop is announced, join in.

To the right is an overview of what's in this issue. Check out the articles and events, and join us as often as you can. We look forward to seeing you.  It's easy to sign-up to automatically receive Take One. Just go to:

MEET THE PRODUCER

Annette Weisse is a certified studio and field producer, and soon to be a graduate of TCtv's new audio/music production workshop. She's has been a producer for four months. Her interests are producing variety shows with her kids, as well as shows about gardening, which is her passion.

Annette is not the only producer in the Weisse household: The whole family joins in. "One thing that I enjoy about TCtv is anyone can learn to create videos. My husband and kids are TCtv producers. We can all participate together as a family creating shows".

She is interested in volunteering on other producers' shoots because it is an opportunity to learn more. She also would like the assistance of other producer for her projects, "I have a family of five, which is good for a small shoot. But as I progress to larger projects, I will be contacting members of my class and others in the TCtv community to help me".

"TCtv is fun, but new to me. I joined originally just to be backup for my kids that had all these ideas and wanted to use the professional equipment here. And now I'm really starting to feel that this is someplace that I can make my own. My own movies and skits, and with the audio certification start making music. So this is an exciting place."
Congratulations to the March Audio Recording and Music Production Workshop Graduates. We look forward to hearing the new in-house production music these producers will create!

New equipment - HD POST-PRODUCTION SUITES

The TCtv post-production suites are almost done getting a complete HD upgrade. New monitors, new speakers, new software.

After years of being an Avid Media Composer center, we have changed over to Adobe CC Premiere Pro software for editing. We feel with the current trends of videographers shooting in multiple formats, we needed software that was up to the task.
Going Handheld

A tripod is a great tool for supporting the camera and keeping your shot stable, but what if the subject needs to move and the shot calls for a constant frame size? You need to go handheld.
Handheld shots can add energy and emotion to a scene. It pulls the viewer into the moment, something a camera mounted a tripod just can't do.

The basic technique is simple, but takes a little practice. There are industry stabilization tools that you can purchase like a steady cam or glide cam, but if you don't have one you can still make a convincing shot. You, the camera person, become the stabilizer. The basic rules are: More...
Using Practical Lights

If you are filming a scene indoors where the talent is reading a book while a lamp is over their shoulder, using the lamp practically can provide the right quality and amount of light you need. The lamp used in this example is considered a practical light. Practical lights are regular light sources, (a lamp, window, overhead lights, etc.), that appear in your shot. Practical lights can be positioned strategically to light your scene to create a natural look. More...
