  TORRANCE SUMMER DAY CAMP
OPEN REGISTRATION 
Torrance offers fun-filled Summer Day Camps with crafts, outdoor games, walking field trips and weekly excursions. Camps will be in session Monday, June 22, 2015 - Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fees range from $130 to $155 per week. Summer Day Camps will be held at Greenwood Park, La Romeria Park and Wilson Park. Extended care will be available for an additional fee. Grim determination in the face of terrible odds characterized many American fighting units in WWII, but there were few, if any, who faced worse odds than the US 8th Air Force, flying missions in the deadly skies over German-occupied Europe. On each mission, the air crews faced 1-in-10 odds of being shot down. For one B-17 crew, that day came in February of 1944, over the French-Belgian border. Luftwaffe fighters set their sights on the Susan Ruth, and this proud Flying Fortress plunged to the earth in flames. Author Steve Snyder will share this fascinating saga. For infants through elementary school students, visit any Torrance Library starting June 22 to sign up, get a reusable book bag, and start reading. Complete your reading log by Saturday, Aug. 8 for a prize. There will be fun and free programs throughout the summer at all locations. FRIDAY FUN AT THE MARSH

MADRONA MARSH NATURE CENTER AND PRESERVE 
"Friday Fun" is a hands-on program for preschoolers (ages 3-6) and their parents or guardians. The program incorporates story time, science, art and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. Space is limited to 20 children, and preregistration is required. The first day of summer is this Sunday, June 21, and in anticipation of the weather getting hotter, two locations in Torrance have been designated as Cooling Centers.
Bartlett Center, 1318 Cravens Avenue; Mon.-Sat. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Katy Geissert Civic Center Library, 3301 Torrance Blvd.; Mon.-Thur. from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
