Mayor Patrick J. Furey and the Torrance City Council accepted the "Mayor's Challenge" sponsored by the Wyland Foundation, in conjunction with Toyota Motors, U.S.A. The "Mayor's Challenge" is a friendly competition among cities in Southern California to see which city can be the most "water wise." The Grateful Crane ensemble pays special tribute to the late, great Japanese singer and actress Misora Hibari. Featuring the singing of her most popular songs, the show will be a nostalgic look back at Hibari's life and career, and how she was able to lift the spirits of the Japanese in Japan and Japanese Americans in America during some very difficult years after WWII. To this day, she holds a special place in the hearts of all who were touched and inspired by her indomitable voice and spirit.
